I thought I would start a new topic so I would not get chewed-out for posting comments on the wrong thread. So, as the subject line goes, let's have fun with this. I can tell in reading the posts that we have allot of talented broadcasters here.

I'm thinking about this and will get back to ya. :)

It's your turn!

Sell the station and sell amway ;D Ok firecop you asked. If there wasn't a classic country I think i could put together a pretty good station.Since there is a classic country here goes....
1)Get the calls WCTF for Classic Top 40
2)The meat of the station would be the top 100 songs from 68-84 from each year.I would fill in holes around that, pre 68 and post 84.
3)Live 24/7 maybe VTing overnight weekends.
4)Year liners, jingles, classic clips from base years for imaging
5)Run some good syndicated stuff on the weekends Back to the 70's w/Charlie Tuna and retro AT 40's
All this and the other stuff I've previously talked about that I know you are tired of hearingthat I believe in for station formatics.Remember you can do alot of things for promotions that don't cost you a dime.

Remember it is easy to become a millionaire in radio. You start out as a billionaire.

Thanks Jim.I tried to listen to WGTM for a few minutes the other day..Three words....

HORR I BLE

There oughta be a law against doing that to such a heritage station...

Allenv:

WGTM needs bombed and total rebuild from towers, transmitter, studios, on up. It's being looked into to reclaim and rebuild. How many religious stations are needed in Wilson? 3 am & 1 fm! plus the other area where everyone rolled over and died. WCNC Rocky Mt needs to be back. You can still dig and do local and get business. Eastern NC had a lot of am & fm until greed set in and all now sound canned & computer. No one serves they communities any more. It all the SOS. Is Eastern NC ready to wake up?

I couldn't agree more sir.590 has a great signal day and night and could become
a viable station again for someone.WCEC could too.Nash/Wilson/Edgecombe counties I think have enough local business to support a local talk station.I have no qualms with urban gospel at all but the area is completely oversaturated with
the format and for the most part the quality is well below average but they do make money in most cases. You know I think radio needs to wake up and stop being satisfied with the SOS..

I like the classic country idea. I've heard a couple very well produced classic country stations on my drives to NC. Even though the music is old in age, it can come off as fresh if it's packaged properly with the right jocks and presentation.

Classic Country can do well in much of North Carolina! However, look for demos to be older (like Oldies and NT). The real test for the format lies in the sales department! Can you find people who know how to sell without ratings in the $$$ demos?

I have said it before, and I stand by it - find an old time sales guy to teach some young folks how to build relationships with business owners (screw the agencies). The direct buy type of business doesn't need to reach a gigantic cume to have a successful advertising campaign!

It is up to the sales person to teach the business person about his realistic trading area and how efficient a smaller, more locally oriented radio station can reach his customers!

I agree 150% with XTalk! You may have an older demo with classic country but get an older sales guy who know the ropes. I worked with a couple. The late Horace Davis was one of the best he had established clients for years, played golf with them and always came back with annuals!. Ashley Mosley was another great sales guy. He also was the best at doing phones sales.

Allen, not sure if WCEC is still available. I was the last jock on the air when it went dark in 1990. We played classic country, Rob Lynn, Dan Tanner, me, Joe Warner was there too. It was 810 on the am dial and if I remember, was only a daytimer. Gordon Finney and Joe Warner took it off the air in order to launch WSAY in December of 1990.

Good Thoughts!

Well put my friend. Some of the change in this industry needs to come from the sales end aswell as the programming side. Both go really hand in hand rather than being at opposite ends of the hallway. You cannot have one without the other.

OH! Sorry. As far as I know it is available. There are no stations here in Rocky Mount on that frequency. I work in the very building CEC and FMA was in.

Very Cool Double. Have you had a chance to go down into the old fall-out shelter?

No but it is still there. I have thought about going in there but they tell me it's not much to look at and there's no telling what sort of creatures that may be living there now.

I love the elevated production room in that building. How many times did I almost bust my butt coming down out of that thing.I wonder what Gordon Finney is up to these days?? I always thought he was a pretty good guy. They had a good group there with Rob,Allen,Gordon etc...WSAY was a cool station with great call letters. It wonder if WSAY is in use????

I'm so not trying to crash this thread. But I can't sit on my hands any longer.

My answer to this thread is "I would turn it on and listen to it." Did nobody notice the title yet? "If I owned a RADIO I would do..."
