If I ran the Boston radio dial!

OK, offer your own opinions. If you had your druthers:

590 WCCR--Classic Country Radio. Parton is such sweet sorrow! Or
move Air America there.
680 WRKO--no real changes except maybe add Beck or Hendrie. Bring back VB!
740 WJIB--more Let's Talk About Radio!
850 WEEI--Don't go changin'. Hope the Sox repeat.
890 WAMG--Keep the same
950 WROL--ROL-igious programming
1030 WBZ--Keep the same or maybe add some talk hosts on weekends
1060 WBIX--Biz news I guess, or maybe good time oldies. BIX-106?
1090 WILD--Keep same
1150 (can't really pick up 1120 too well) WTTT--Should merge with the
Air America stations at 1200 and 1430 and have Death Match Radio:
The Al Franken and Ann Coulter Show.
The Ed Schulz and Sean Hannity Show.
The Janeane Garofolo and Michelle Malkin Show.
The Barry Crimmins and Pat Robertson show

Let's get ready to rumble!

1200 WKOX--See 1150.
1230 WESX, 1300 WJDA--same music but local DJs
1260 WMKI If not radio for kids, how bout radio for old geezers?
1330 WRCA or whatever calls are now--Espanol
1360, 1470, 1600etc--keep same
1430--see 1150
1510--Sports for those who don't like WEEI or ESPN
1550--all Irish folk
1570--more local DJs!

FM--hmm, we need smooth jazz...but where?
Move FNX programming to 92.9 and put Spanish on 101.7
Boost WMWM to 10,000 watts and give them new equipment (LOL!)
96.9--Put Barnicle in retired writers' home and run local guy or
Glenn Beck, or do Ingraham live

103.3 ADD THE 80s! 1964-1988 or so and yes, no Quiet Riot. We don't
want to upset the soccer moms (though some may like harder music)
93.7--move WEEI there so I can get crystal clear recep while at work!

News and views about Boston and New England Radio:

http://www.livejournal.com/community/boston_radio</P>

I would:
Move Oldies 1033 to 98.5, switch the calls on 103.3 to WHHT, or WHIT, or I something, and play 80's and 90's only.

Move Top 40 over from Kiss108 to 94.5, which I would re-name Jammin'Z94, and put all the Hip-Hop and R&B on Kiss, but also lots of old-skool on Kiss. Z94 would have a small amount of reverb.

Make 93.7 "Mike FM" into a true Jack FM (even if it meant paying Infinity for the rights to it).

WBZ would have CBS new atop the hour, every hour. I would drop ABC news and Paul Harvey, and leave those for WRKO.

Channel 7 would buy a radio frequency and call it WHDH AM, and would go head-to-head against WBZ.

I'd bring back the "I'd rather be in Boston" jingles to WROR, and make it more of classic dance station to replace Star.

WBOS would drop Progressive, and I'd re-name it "Boss Radio 93, WBOS," and they would play mainstream CHR (with maybe a Hot AC lean) to go against Jammin'Z94.

Wow! Thank God you DON'T "run the Boston radio dial," Garrett!
In fact... don't TOUCH your dials for a couple days... in your car... your home... you may muss something up! Whew! :)

Heres what i would do:

1) NO STATIONS WOULD TRANSMIT IBOC (Am or Fm) in the boston market

Other changes i would make

.59 - Keep same (Country music/special programming on the weekends)

.68 WRKO -- No changes except bring back howie carr.. (Didnt he end last year on WRKO?)

.85 - WEEI - Keep the same

1.03 - WBZ - Keep same

1.06 WBIX - Keep the same

1.09 WILD - R&B (Like they used to be in the 80s and 90s (Arent they playing hip hop now??))

1.57 - All left wing discussions (Like KB 15 in buffalo)

93.7 - The Eagle (They were good)

94.5 - SMOOTH R&B (None of that hip hop garbage anymore)

96.1 - The same

103.3 - Move the calls back to WHTT (Seeing as there is no limits on more than 1 call anymore (If its in a different market) and play the 80s like they were...

103.7 - BACK TO WRX -- (WOULD STILL BE THE BEST THEY WERE BEFORE BEING SOLD (Ah do i miss them))

107.3 - WAAF -- (Would still be as good as they were 5 years ago before going down hill)

107.9 - Indie Rock (College type music)

Gee, Dude, you brought back a 3 year old thread just to leave half of everything the same. Way to be a rebel, bud. :p

I will ask again, who in their right mind would want to change 93.7? It has very low overhead and does quite well in the ratings!

-All college stations 91.9-88.1 keep the same-

-92.5 , and 92.9 Put HOT NEW Country Music

-93.7 Make it "Funkytown 93.7" (like how Star 93.7 used to be, put that on 1260am as well, because 93.7 doesn't come in good in Dorchester/Roxbury, Southend, and Comm Ave area-any walk man I use, can not get it, and I have new walkmans and old walkman, I can get 93.7 in the car well)

94.5 keep the same

96.9 Disregard Jay Severan!!!!!

97.7 Keep The same, because people on the Northshore can not get 107.3

-98.5 Keep The Same but add some famous shows "Billy Bush Show" at night

-99.1, 99.5 Keep The same

100.7 Keep The same

101.7 Put that to Spanish AC

102.5 Keep The same

103.3 Keep the same

-104.1 Keep The same

105.7 Keep the same, but play more motown and more soft oldies (disregard Bob Dilyn music

590, 690 keep the same, 850 keep the same, 890am Sporting News Radio, 950am keep the same, 1030, same, 1090 same, 1pm-4pm Keep The music on, 1150am, same, 1260am same, 1510am Put ESPN Radio on there

Disregard all Pirate radio stations!!!

Turn 'BCN back to 1984, before The Fall. Cutting-edge rock, you never knew what was coming next, and the jocks who defined the era.

Dr. Dean Edell after WRKO's cesspool of a morning show.

Hendrie 10p-Mid on WRKO.

Beck replacing Felon's Cornah.

Agree with Garrett on CBS TOH news on WBZ, but keep Harvey. It won't be much longer, I'm afraid. Dump it when a successor is named.

M.

Bring top talent back to WRKO.

Bring back Neil Cheyet Sunday nights on WBZ.

Return 1090 to classic soul, maybe even new R&B also.

Return 1300 and 1330 back to ABC's satelite classics.

Debut a new format on 1510, either a new talk station or move WILD there and make it a 24 hour operation instead?

FM:

Either streamline the music on WBOS or move the River to 92.9; indroduce a new format on 92.5, perhaps Urban AC?

Keep 93.7 the same.

Make Jam'n a lot less repetitive and more appealing to adults.

Keep WTKK the same for now, or put Howie Carr on in mornings. (hey, this is if I ran things, not as if they were.)

Keep Mix the same, add an all 90's show on Saturday nights.

Keep WPLM the same.

Do not know enough about WCRB to do anything with it.

Keep WZLX the same.

Add more retro 80's stuff on WFNX, perhaps a retro weekend show as well?

Keep WKLB the same, maybe add a Classic Country show.

Continue to add more 80's to WODS playlist.

Either keep WBCN the same, or introduce an R&B format there.

Either expand 80's titles on WROR or drop them all from the playlist entirely, make the station much more top personality driven.

Fix the chopped up songs on WMJX.

Keep Kiss 108 the same.

Ah man!!

Nothing is wrong with dates right??

Not to worry......... Lets begin redoing the Boston market!!

Isn't "Sunday Morning Country Oldies" still on WKLB 8 AM - 12 noon with Michael Burns and Stu Fink?

I haven't listened lately to check. It's not mentioned on their website, but I don't think it ever was.

??? Granted he was a big bust at syndication but so was everyone from the Boston market who tried. But the dude is the best thing Boston has going for itself on radio. So why would you get ride of the best thing you got going for you on your dial? Glad you elitist Cambridge Kiss 108/ WFNX listening crowd isn’t running the dials anywhere except for maybe somewhere like communists Cambridge.

103.3 more 80s. Actually be a clone of CBS 101.1.

104.1 Urban/dance A/C - keep the call letters and have a rock based dance show on weekends

100.7 wider variety of rock to cover for the lost rock of the old BCN

Wxks should have LESS repetition

Putting soul and R+B on 1510 would be interesting, but you'd get requests from Northern Europe at night. LA_Guy was one of the engineers there back in the day and he remarked if the American League ever put a franchise in London, they'd be all set. as the then night signal(5 kW)would jump the pond easily. It still must do that with the current 50 kW from Waltham....
