If I was running 100.3

Those rumors have been going around since KZLA's flip to Country. Heard rumors of "La Preciosa" and Country. The latter would make a lot of disenfranchised listeners happy, but the former seems like a better move for the market demos.

We know that "Recuerdo" has done very well in markets where "Preciosa" was on first. How would this work in reverse, especially with a class B against two Class A's (albiet two very well targeted ones)? However, KRCD/KRCV is local - and I'm sure David has been thinking through this one for a while :)

The rumors have heated up further, to the point that apparently clients are being "consulted" so they feel part of the change. Good tactic, too.

LA is very fragmented compared to the markets where Preciosa actually works. There are, at best, about 4 shares for the format. Divide it between two, and you leave Clear with a Spanish station that will bill about $12 million (low rated spanish stations do about that level... way below the current billing).

Since Recuerdo has beaten every Preciosa we have put it against in 6 months or less, there is not much they can do on programming. The format is really small-market, and would likely do poorly in LA, just as it has done in other larger markets like Dallas where recuerdo beats it nearly 2 to 1 in the last month.

Recuerdo LA also has local talent, and a local community service heritage of 6 years standing... and an alliance with our own TV stations. Going up against it for $12 million does not seem to make sense, but the CCU Hispanic division has made so many mistakes it still would not surprise me.

I think we will know this week. Should be "entertaining."

I am reminded of the Chinese curse, "may you live in interesting times." I believe I am living them now.

This "rumor" has been heard around Star. Actually, management came out and said that Star is staying put, that John Hogan loves the format and believes in new Star program director Charese Fruge’ and they plan on supporting her and the format for quite sometime. It should also be noted that new afternoon drive jock Tom Mitchell and night jock Richard Blade were just signed to 1 year contracts.

With all that said, wisdom of years in radio says when they say nothing, don't worry. When they come out and deny it, worry.

Very true.

Yup, which is why I stated 100.3 is not for sale, will not be bought by Emmis, Univision, Liberman, Salem, or anyone else. No one has denied it or spoke about it.

All you guys are all crying over nothing. Now, I need to get Moving with 93.9.

Someone stated that indie 1031 is a failure. And judging by there ratings a fair statement. But then my question is why are they still on the air 2.5 years later?I love the station.

Simple, nothing else to put on 103.1 that would garnish anything better especially Revenue. And CEO Walter Utelo has stated that he considers Indie vaulable in the fact they can convert Indie English Ad dollars to the Superestralla Ad Dollars. In other words, a strategy.

But with Entravision pulling out of various markets where they don't own TV stations, this is all moot. Indie will be sold, a Asian broadcaster will grab 103.1 and will broker it and you all will have to go and buy a HD Radio, XM/Sirius Radio, Internet Service, or CDs to listen to that lame obscure music. I listen to real music myself, Gansta Rappers on KPWR and KDAY, R&B/Classic Soul on KHHT, KJLH, and KKBT, Hard guitar Squeeling Heavy Metal on KROQ-HD-2, Standards on KMZT-HD-2, and good songwriters on KYSR.

You are probably right. Man, you would love XM.

I hope and pray you are wrong about indie i love the station but i bet if indie was on a good signal it would really damage kroq but thats neither here nor there. I hope indie hangs on for eternity not just in cyberspace but on the radio itself. For if they go away this would make hotpatrick very sad!

Well, that's just part of the radio biz.

Same 'ol song and dance.
Indie is going to be around a year from now, and we'll still be having this conversation.

Get your heads out of Arbitron, and realize that in spite of a book, the station is exceeding the sales goals set for it. So.....as long as that keeps 'em happy......the station will keep on.
There are no plans for Entravision to pull out of LA at all!

There is a great article in Sunday's Orange Country Register entitled " Fading Frequencies" which discusses the reasons why a station flips its format as well as listener reaction to the KZLA flip. The article primarily lays the blame on media consolidation.

But here's the fallout from the KZLA flip: The article reports that those listeners are now converting over to satellite radio.

So, in a way, these media conglomorates are their own worst enemy and satellite radio's salvation.
