You know you're getting old when the people you worked with over the years start passing away. Just this last week we learned of the death of Perry Allen, for whom I did news at KCBQ back in about 1979. Ten years later I did news for Bryan Jones on Z-90 (before it was Jammin'): he passed away a few months ago.

Both of them apparently died of heart attacks. I luckily survived my own major heart attack and five-way bypass a few years ago, but if you worked with me, you might want to make an appointment with the cardiologist.

PS: I am sorry that there was no public service for Perry Allen. This guy had more friends than anybody in radio and it would have been a celebration of his life and the sharing of hundreds of PA quips and stories. I won't tell you my favorite, only the punchline (and this is a true story) which has the San Diego chief of police saying of Perry, "He's going to do like he always does - go out in the parking lot and smoke his sh*t."

I had coffee with Bob once ... and then was hit by a car walking across a street.

Is this related? Conspiracy theory, quick get me Art Bell on the phone!

I worked with Art Bell at KUDE Oceanside, but not on the same shift.

Bob, was that before or after K.O. Bayley worked there. I went in to apply for a job when I was a kid,
the PD pointed me towards the control room and said that job has been filled by a real heavy weight.
I was so depressed that one of my idols was working in Oceanside after NY, SF, SD, Detroit, I was sick.
When was Art there?

Art and I were at KUDE in 72-73. After that he ran an adult bookstore in Vista for awhile and even made the newspapers because of a
"swinger's club" he operated. Then he went up to Alaska and started doing his copy of the Bill Ballance Feminine Forum talk show. That was, i believe, Art's first talk show.

KO worked in San Diego at KGB as Bob Elliott so he may have had some San Diego County ties that brought him to Oceanside for a while (it certainly wasn't the money or the prestige). When FM started to ascend in the mid to late 1970's a lot of Top 40 AM jocks began to have a tough time getting gigs and KO was not the only one who'd done Bill Drake Boss Radio and ended up at (or at least stopped by) KUDE.
