If I were Clear Channel...

I would flip 95.5 to an adult-friendly Modern Rock format, similar Radio 104-5 in Philly, in the not-to-distant future.

Reasons why such a move might make sense:

--Spanish language FMs generally have weaker billing in Chicago than their English language counterparts
--Such a format would appeal to not only many former listeners of Q101, but also many folks who cume WTMX, WXRT, and dare I say even WCFS
--Such a format would weaken WTMX's numbers a bit, thereby helping Lite-FM
--Could be bundled with either WLIT or WKSC for sales purposes; the station would be positioned midway between the demos those two stations deliver
--Low overhead; listeners of such a station by & large do not want morning zoo-style radio

Thoughts?

If that doesn't work how about this?
If Cumulus ruins or kills WLS FM Clear Channel could change 95.5 to a 70s oldies station like K-Hits, bring back either the WMET or WDHF calls, if available, and add such personalities such as Greg Brown. Should give K-Hits a run for its money. The two stations could be an interesting rivalry.

If Cumulus kills WLS-FM they are idiots. However, they've been idiots before so anything is possible.

I do not want to see this happen, the thought has been on my mind the last couple days.

Since WBBM and the whatever 101, will be on FM, that Cumulus will throw 890 on 94.7?

For one reason, their cheap, and secondly they will be on more even footing with Newsradio and whatever 101.

I enjoy WLS-FM a lot. What they should do is add more local talent and get a good morning man like Fred Winston.
Of course cumulus won't do that.

I'm with you radioman, this talk about WLS being blown up makes me very uncomfortable. And yes, I must agree that I have little faith in Cumulus to do a good job with it. Which is very sad because they've got WLS-FM sounding great right now! Let's hope that Cumulus is smart enough to leave it alone.

From everything I've heard about cumulus we should expect the worst, but I hope I'm wrong.

Cumulus owns KFOG in San Francisco and they have local on air talent. and I've seen other cumulus stations with a full lineup. Not very many though. Maybe they will keep WLS FM as it is. they probably will get rid of the morning show.

Also they will probably cut Dick Biondi's freedom on Fridays and not let him talk as much. they will cut the weather forecasts and the jokes and make him read a script. :(

If they do that then there would be no reason to listen to WLS-FM.
