So, Ardonavinda, You were the programming brain behind 105.7 WLSQ. Untill early 2006, I spent 25 years in radio and I have to honestly tell you that the re-creation of the "music radio format on 'LSQ was the best radio that I have EVER heard in this area and the best that I have heard in a long time anywhere! To your credit, it was not the same playlist recycled over and over (the norm in todays radio). I was listening one morning and heard "Jimmy loves Mary-Ann" by the group Looking Glass. Sure , everybody and their brother plays "Brandy" but you never hear "Jimmy" on the radio. One of the great points that 'LSQ had. We got to hear some of the more obscure songs that maybe were not the biggest of hits but back in the day were at least "semi-popular".
And as far as the personalites went, and they were that, personalities, they were high-energy and sounded very good.
Anyway, Ardonavinda, thanks for the memories and 5 months of great radio before the owners of Southern Media made perhaps one of the biggest blunders in radio history. Thanks again.

Well I don't want to take all of the credit for the way WLSQ sounded. I didn't pick the jingle package. I liked it, but it wouldn't have been my 1st pick. I didn't come up with the idea to run top of hour national news followed by local news, but I liked it. Nor can I claim the audio chains sound other than the fact that I recomended reverb on the whole audio chain & not just the mic. We all listed to WLS and WABC so we knew that style we were wanting. However the music was my game, I'm glad you enjoyed it. I added those songs like "Jimmy Loves Mary-Anne" by Looking Glass for the exact reason you just mentioned, that's also why I added 3 Dog Night's, "The Show Must Go On" even though JTW is my all time favorite song. Or Archie Bell & the Drells' "There's Gonna Be A Showdown" I felt that these other cuts were big bonafide hits as well but they are not getting airplay like they should so I made sure those songs and others like it got some long needed expossure! When we all sat down to talk about doing this format last winter one idea was thrown out to play vintage radio and the audio to television adds, like TV Land used to do, "Retromercials" use them going into stop sets for an "Oh Wow" factor, we found plenty, we just never really utilized them, had we continued to stay on track with that format I think we may have worked them in as more of our presentation.
Thanks Jeff for the Zenith 500 tip I will do an e-bay browse to make sure. I will also vist your link to post some of my WLSQ work, it's not scoped down so I will do some Cool-Edit work and you can steer people to it. And to deltas69 I like how you think, I don't mean to come off sounding so negative about AM radio, I just know the up hill battles and hurdles that one would have to endure if programming Classic Top 40 on AM these days. Not saying it couldn't work. It just would be tough, because you know if an AM was to pull this off, one of the bigger FM's could steel it away and just the fact that it's on FM would crush the AM's chance to succeed. But good talent who knows the format and knows how to deliver it isn't always easy to find. BTW what has happend to Bobby Knight? He would definately be on my team if I was to re-construct a Music Radio WABC/WLS style of format again. I've enjoyed him since I moved here in 1992 for a local radio gig. He gets it.
