If I where the PD of WMMR

With three days left of ME Snyder and the announcement of Matt Cord taking over the evening slot, I feel this is a BIG mistake on WMMR's part.

What I would have done or like to see is GET JACXON OFF the drive time slot!
He is a bad fit for this market with his phony approach, his greasman sounding voice and the constant reading of news stories on the air is grating!!!!
Why not move him to evenings and put Matt back in his old 3-7 slot?
I emailed the program director and he informs me that the reason for the hire of Jaxson was an alternative to 10 in a row, traffic, weather etc...
Okay I buy that, but what is wrong with Matt providing that alternative, but without the ego?

Jaxson won me over one day with the IPod segment. At some point, he played Van Halen's "Sinner's Swing" and, for some reason, thought the song was so awesome that he had to play it again. An assistant PD came in and immediately admonished him. He didn't care. I thought it was awesome and very genuine. Yeah, sure, it's probably a big radio no-no, but sometimes you just gotta hear something twice.

I don't find him particularly grating. I think he's a nice break from what the jocks normally do on the station.

He doesn't seem to drone on and on like Pierre has a tendency to do. I love Pierre, and sometimes the things he says really make my day, but does Pierre's Planner have to drag on for so so long? Do we all really care if it's National Low-Fat Cheddar with Baked Tortilla Chips Month?

Jaxon is a buddy of Bill Weston's from another station--that's why he got the job. Just like Razz was Sam Milkman's buddy, which is why HE got the same job.

A classic case of "it's not what you know, it's who you know."

Jacxon really is a small market sounding puker. Bill Weston has got to be able to hear how much better Matt Cord is, wouldn't you think? Matt was one of my favorites when he worked at MMR. He wouldn't have to fire his buddy Jacxon, just move him to nights and put Matt Cord in afternoons.

I think Jaxon would be a catastrophe at night. He only has four hours. That's not much. To go and have him on all night, ugh. I say bring in Bret Hamilton for the afternoon! That would be awesome. Have Matt on at night and he could bring back such favorites as his lame ass trivia and the cage match. Plus another good segment for at night would be Philly Files about local music. C'mon GM, whaddayatink?

Like you, I was not a big Jaxon fan when he came on - I thought Razz was doing an excellent job, and was a good fit in Philly. The i-pod segment is one of the things that has changed my mind about Jaxon. He seems to enjoy what he is doing, and he seems to like Philly. I do however feel he would be a better fit in Dee's timeslot, and that Matt Cord should get the afternoon slot. People are comfortable with Cord, he could incorporate some of his Y drive time componets, and that would free him up to continue doing his voice of the Sixers gig in the fall.

He's a FAKE!!!
He does these staged bits to try win back listeners
His brand of Rock DJ Radio does not work in this market...

I tend to agree with this. Yesterday, Jaxon played some 'new' song and asked people to call in to let him know what they think. Well, of course, everyone that called said they liked the song and the last guy? It had to be one of his old friends from 'Hotfod' because his accent was not from any where remotely close to philly. (and I know 'mmr streams now, but c'mon.)
Edited by Kenso on 06/16/05 03:36 PM.

Not only is he a fake but he thinks listeners are dumbells
i..e. He states "I have a request coming up for a guy in Allentown for some Audioslave" Hey Jaxon we are not stupid NO station takes random requests.
I will guarantee in a year from now either his show is tuned down to just music and traffic or he is gone from this market.
Also correct me if I am wrong but didn't Couzin Ed try bits like this on YSP when he first took over and management at Infinity had enough feedback research to guage that this "brand" of radio does not work!!

Every single station out there does this. It is not just Jaxon and his "brand" of radio.

And Kenso watch the accent bit when I came back to "Hotfod" as you put it. I was rediculed for my Philly accent when I asked for a glass of wodder. ;)

my philly accent asks for a glass of warder. :)

I really like Matt Cord as a jock, but putting him on nights is a big mistake. He just isn't a night jock. I just think the night audience might find his smooth and calm afternoon delivery a bit boring...

It's too bad they wouldn't just put him on afternoons. Of course it is MMR and it's probably too much of me to expect them to make the right decision.

Matt Cord was a very successful night-time dj ON WMMR before he went to Y-100. DUH. Just because you have an opinion on something doesn't make you even remotely right. Where's that big education about which you always refer? Sheesh. Do your homework or run along, mkay?

...and - he will broadcast from MMR in Philly, not New York, he is a familiar name, knows the area, and has a solid fan base who will listen no matter what time he is on.

I think you may have mistaken me with someone else. I've never refered to anty education I've had here. That said, no homework needed. I remember Matt at nights. He was boring. It's just an opinion, like you had. This board is all about opinions, don't tell me I can have one because yours is different.

That said, I think Matt is a really great afternoon jock. I think his personality is tailor made for afternoons. He's just a very pedestrian night jock that doesn't really have the energy to carry a really good night show.

Plus, this idea that he has a built in audience that will listen to him wherever he is.... I just don't buy that. Like I said, I liked the guy but he didn't exactly do a whole lot on his show. I don't really think a lot of former Y100 listeners are going to tune in just to hear Matt introduce records that they don't even like. Maybe it's your opinon that they will. I wish him luck.
