If it's already compressed?

Running radio shows and audio feeds from other online broadcasts has presented probably an already familiar problem that I should know the answer to, but I am confused.
I run a simple multiband compressor on my LPAMs audio, do a bit of EQing to make it sound fantastic while playing dynamic music and vocals into the chain.
However when switching to either internet broadcast feeds or CD audio that has been already highly compressed in it's studio production I am left with a headache. Either it sounds like trash or it sounds like everything good about the audio is missing!

I can play classic rock CDs and records, old music of many sorts from vinyl, uncompressed feeds that are natural and my stations audio chain does the rest to make it sound big and bold.
But when the big and bold is already in place and THEN I broadcast it all hell breaks loose.

Either it sounds like compressed junk, or it has some weird phase sounding issues where some audio ranges are extorted and others completely depressed.

Just curious what you all do to solve this?

It doesn't help on AM. At least with FM broadcasting there is more forgiveness in audio range, but with AM most of us tune our processing to a type of music, well I like to broadcast a variety. Is it even possible to broadcast a variety of music, classical to rock on AM with loudness and compressed processing?

Still working on the perfect solution. I'll let you know when I'm satisfied. Wrote a lot about this under the topic "Making a Rangemaster Sound Really Good and" two other subject headings. Lots of good info offered in those posts.
