If KLOVE is CHR than what is Air 1?

I havent listened to Klove in a wile so I did yesterday.man they were playing Rock songs, CHR music and very little what I call AC.So what is Klove now? and what is Air 1? and how long has this been going on? granted I didnt listen but about 20 minutes but I was kind of impressed ;D

K-LOVE is still considered AC, but they do rock more now, although they do still go softer than Air 1 at times. I'd consider it hot AC at best. Air 1 comes closer to actually being CHR. I've heard it suggested, and I've wondered as well, if in the future they could merge the two.

I would actually say that K-LOVE is as pure of a Christian AC format as you can get. The difference is that what is considered AC has evolved over time, just like with mainstream AC. It used to lean pretty heavily toward what is now Inspo, but artists like Skillet, David Crowder Band, Toby Mac and such have managed to make inroads into this format within the last couple of years. (The on-air staff and imaging at K-LOVE still practically shout AC, and are DEFINITELY not Hot AC or CHR.)

I think you'll still have a pretty clear separation between Air 1's CHR and K-LOVE's AC format... if anything, the CHR format and Air 1 will get hotter yet to maintain the distance between them and K-LOVE.

I agree that the two are different. I'm sure if you looked at their listener profile & who they target...they'll be different. I see no reason why they would want to merge the two when they're doing well with both.

If they do make any changes, I'd like to see K-Love keep the Hot AC slant (a lot of the imaging is actually in the vein of a Hot AC, the airstaff's presentation is really all that needs to catch up with it), and for Air1 to go to a real Christian Alternative format-Air1 would be a Rock reporter as far as the charts go, but play about 60% Rock and 40% CHR while cutting out the AC/CHR crossover artists (Tomlin, Crowder, etc.) K-Love would target the females, Air1 would target the males, and EMF could safely plop one of each in a given market.

After listening to K-Love a bit in California when I was visiting there a couple weeks ago, I was impressed with how fresh and lively the new(er) imaging was. Even the music selection has perked up a bit, though as somebody mentioned earlier, the AC format in general is getting a bit more perky.

However, I have to disagree that Air 1 is leaning harder. A new Air 1 translator just signed on in my area after I listened to one in my old hometown back in 2002-04. Air 1 is certainly not rocking it out as much now as it did back then. I would say they are going for almost a chill alternative feel with some novel pop-rock acts; I also don't think it's too CHR-ish because the majority of songs I hear are still at least 1 year old. Also, think about songs like Red "Breathe Into Me" or Skillet "Rebirthing"; these songs when played on Air 1 have a watered down pop remix (note the balance of synth violin & acoustic guitar vs. the absence of the grungier electric guitar and the softening of the drum kit). However, this makes sense... to keep their contributions coming in, they must play a format that 25-49 year olds will like, not what 12-24s will like (aka RadioU in Columbus or WMKL in south Florida).

I'm betting Air 1's target demo is 18-34 females with the bull's eye being upper 20s female. I could be wrong but that's what I'm hearing. That explains their music mix. They might have a hard time with listener support if they targeted a male audience.

radio myth number 1..Adults dont like metal...2.Adults dont like hard rock...

I am 40 this year. I love metal. I love HEAVY Metal. I also support Air 1. Yes I give them money. I dont have a church so why not. I am also male. But I know lots of females from wayyy back that stil listen to Metal and Rock. Its not 1995 anymore. he generation that grew up with AC/dc and Sabbath are approaching their 40s and 50s. ;D

K-Love is a pretty regular catch in the Eastern half of the DFW area when KTCU is off the air. Which is pretty often, I guess those college students just turn out the lights - and the transmitter - and go home when they are done. Anyway, K-Love is pretty mellow stuff. I really wouldn't call it anything close to CHR. KLTY is much hotter CCM than K-Love. And it is the 25 to 54 year old soccer mom station. I wonder what demographic K-Love is going for, because it sure isn't anything upbeat. MOre like church worship music sometimes.

I think what makes KLOVE AC or Hot AC is their station attitude. There is alot of songs that cross both AC and CHR lines like MercyMe, Sanctus Real, etc. KLOVE could almost be CHR is it wasnt for the almost nausiating "poossiitttvveee, eenccoourraging, K Luuvvvv" (all that's missing is the puppies dressed in pink)

Good music, the BEST message and ministry...just not for the younger demo

KLOVE is playing what tests well.

1. Guitar Driven
2. Male Artists
3. Rock bent

Pretty slick sounding. Sure wish they'd tell the listeners how much money is being raised every year though!
