If Mix 107.9 went away...

If Saga decided to flip 107.9, would any other radio operator in Columbus be willing to take on Hot AC? Let's look at the list minus Saga:
CC-Not a snowball's chance in hell...WNCI already leans Hot AC at times, and CC wouldn't do anything to hurt their #1-rated heritage CHR.
RadiOhio-With The Fan doing well(Not to mention how cheap it is to run), I don't see RadiOhio trying Hot AC again.
NABCO-Both The Blitz and 'TDA are doing well(Or as good as 'TDA will do), giving no reason to flip.
Wilks-Q-FM is doing well, 'HOK isn't...95.5 could be a possible home for a Hot AC, but I doubt it. 95.5 has signal limitations as well.
Radio One-The Urban Radio Specialist...NO.
Personally, I don't see Mix 107.9 biting the dust for one simple reason: Saga probably wants to sell Sunny, Mix, and Rewind as a combo...and also they would give up owning the AC format in Columbus.
However...when 'BNS left the format, they were doing mid 3s, on a big signal no less...i'm guessing most of the audience either went to WNCI or found other alternatives to radio to listen to music because they couldn't pick up the weaker 107.9 signal.

Well, when Rewind debuted Saga did make the dubious declaration that they may be the only cluster in the country that is targeted entirely to women.

I have no data to support this, but incidence of a country lifestyle is probably higher than average in the small-town and rural areas that predominate in WHOK's coverage geography.

Yeah, I think it'll stay country forever... there's no real reason for it to flip.

Blowing up WHOK's format for HOT AC would be like blowing up WCOL 92.3 for CHR.. It ain't going to happen any time soon.. I suspect while WHOK does not do 'high high high' numbers in Columbus the listenership in SE Ohio were it's signal is strongest likely serves it well... since the other country outlets down that way 98.3 and 94.3 and 107.7 have weaker signals.

I agree with all, but it's still worth noting that WHOK seems to be among the stations hardest hit by the switch to PPM.  Perhaps the more regionally-focused signals may end up having greater share fluctuation in PPM due to PPM's smaller sample sizes.  Further, the lesser signals (which in K-95's case is just "kind of lesser") may now find it harder to compensate for lower reach with good time spent listening --  given the PPM is even more cume-dependent than the diary. Deficient signals like Rewind and Gen-X helped head off these issues at the pass by switching to more PPM-friendly formats as the meter hit town. In fact, based on their PPM showing either of those would easily be top 5 25-54 if they were on a city-grade signal like 93.3.

I once said the same thing about WGTZ/Dayton and it ended up abandoning CHR/Pop for Adult Hits Fly 92.9...Z had been CHR since Sunday, March 15, 1984 and were until Thursday, November 1, 2007...first tune-Kenny Loggins "Footloose"...last tune-Green Day-Good Riddance(Time Of Your Life). That's an amazing 23 year run for Pop on Z. Any station could flip at any time...NO station is ever safe from flipping. :-\

Very true! Well, I miss Z-93 even though I liked Channel better when it was local.
I was a fan of 94.5 in its very early days as "The Beat"/WBTT when it launched in August, 1996, and was doing Rhythmic CHR...however, once they started leaning Top 40, I went "home" to Z-93. Also to note, at this time WXEG/The Edge was my primary station on my radio b/c of my love for Alternative at the time. Now I NEVER listen to 'XEG. Now, back to discussing Columbus radio right after these messages from your local station... ;D

Haha. 945 was good in 05 when they launched Channel 945 as well. Wes left, Clayton left, and Drake had to do it all! Went downhill ever since Dave and Jimmy got on air.
