If NOW jumps on Christmas music in October

On the goofy rumor front, let's start some. How about B101 realizing they can't possibly compete with Now's younger approach, so they're flipping to FM talk.

Hey, Barsky *is* available - as well as one half of Matt & Huggy...

The only other thing I can add to this thread is Sunny played the best Holiday music hands down. The years they played Christmas music were the best in Philly radio. I heard tunes I never heard before and many Christmas tunes unknown to me such as Josh Groban and Carla Bonoff-O Holy Night, Naoimi Judd with a beatutiful rendition of Ava Maria, the Hippo song, Christmas Canon, I can go on and on with the great music Sunny played there was nothing like it ever done before and probably will never be on air again. Unless GM finds the Sunny library and goes to it in a month or so....Sunny was the best for Christmas music going way out of format.

I have a feeling people are going to reply to this by saying it wasn't rated as highly as B101's Christmas format. Allow me to pre-empt: That's a weak argument for several reasons, all of which we already know so I won't waste my time going into it. Hands-down, Sunny played a better, wider variety of Christmas music than B101.

Of course, you do acknowledge "better" is completely subjective, right? ;) While the ratings are objective, it is possible for people to have not been as big a fan of Sunny's choices without them being from Mars, lol. :D

There was a station in Indianapolis that went all-Christmas from the middle of October to the second week of January last year. It became a talk station.

96.1/93.1 in Atlantic City went all-Christmas in October a couple years ago. It didn't exactly work (especially since October can be rather warm - it sucks playing Christmas music when it was in the upper 70s around Halloween).

Radio & Records had an article about all-Christmas a few weeks ago: stations that go all-Christmas lose up to 50% of their P1s, while ratings overall can jump as high as 250%. Damned if you do, damned if you don't.

If Now 97.5 indeed does flip to Christmas, how much you want to be their tagline will be:

"Have yourself a merry little Christmas... NOW"? :D
