Rather than comment on any specific station and their current rating, I'd rather challenge ALL RADIO STATIONS to toss some of their liner cards out the window!

These often sound worse than the programming itself! ::)

The key with liners (as well as sweepers, promos, etc.) is to keep them fresh. There's no excuse for keeping the same liners in use for weeks or even months at a time.

Almost as bad are awkwardly-phrased liners. I once worked for a PD who couldn't write a concise, conversational-sounding liner to save his life. They were consistently wordy and stiff-sounding. I'd paraphrase them, but most of the other jocks read them verbatim. Ugh.

It is encouraging to hear that there are still some real programmers still out there. Oldbones has the right idea, do not depend on liner cards per se. When I programmed stations in the past, and especially when I was new in town, I'd take a couple hour drive around my new adopted city and jot down sites that appealed to me as a new "visitor." I then presented my list to the air staff and sales people for their input and encouraged them to add their favorite areas of the city (or cities in the coverage area) or places I had missed. Then I simply created liners in outline form from the completed list. I would tell the air talent to go ahead and ad lib because who else would know their city better? As a result had some really unique "liners." We would be incorporating our image and merge it into the market itself, giving us a one-of-a-kind identity. Then we would further involve the promotions department to create truly localized promotions that would of course, sell. One other thought...with satellite radio so centralized and homogenized, there is a real opportunity for competing non-satellite stations (are there any left?) to rediscover local radio, again.[/color
