If the First Day of CC's HD Programming..

Is any indication of what HD programming is all about, I'll wait until HD is a standard option when I buy a new receiver for my stereo for my car or home.

As a fan of Deep Classic Rock, I decided to check out Clear Channel's "Q 104-3 'Deep Classics'" format. For those of you who are interested in checking out what CC is currently offering via HD, I offer you this link:

Here's what an hour of Q 104-3 "Deep Classics" (New Yawk City) offered me on 1/19/2006. All times are PST:

17:52: David Bowie - "Space Oddity"
17:56: Doors - "Love Me Two Times"
17:59: Nirvana - "Come as You Are"
18:03: Creedence Clearwater Revival - "Rollin' on the River"
18:06: Led Zeppelin - "Stairway to Heaven"
18:14: Elton John - "Your Song"
18:18: Aerosmith - "Dream On"
18:22: Black Sabbath - "Paranoid"
18:25: George Thoroughgood - "One Bourbon, One Scotch, One Beer"
18:32: Steven Stills - "Love the One You're With"
18:36: Rolling Stones - "Heartbreaker"
18:40: Bon Jovi - "Dead or Alive"
18:45: Bad Company - "Feel Like Making Love"
18:50: Billy Idol - "Dancing with Myself"
18:53: Kinks - "Lola"

None of these songs are inherently bad. But there is nothing "Deep" about them. I could hear any of these songs within 2 days on my local Classic Rocker. Really nothing special here. I'll continue to pay $13.00 a month for my satellite, based on that hour alone.

Yes, it's only the first day...And, yes,it is Clear Channel. I'll give them credit for at least providing the public with a free link to their stream for a sample. Hopefully some other major broadcaster will provide me (and perhaps the general public) with a reason to purchase an HD receiver. Until then, it's back to the satellite for some real "Deep Tracks" for me..... : )

Do you not think that the Satellite programmers don't
have their own playlists?

No -- I really doubt if they just pick and choose any songs
you hear. Listen long enough and you'll hear the same songs.

Well, of course. That's a given........ Most of the satellite channels are automated and voice-tracked, just like terrestrial radio. The difference between the two lies in the depth of the music selection. I'll pay to hear a satellite channel that offers roughly 10,000 songs of the music I like over hearing the same 300 songs for free.

I seriously doubt any individual sattelite channel has a 10,000 song playlist. They may play enough "oh wows" to make you think they do, but they're not playing alll obscure and unknown songs either..and, yes that included the "deep cuts" channels.<P ID="signature">______________

Why not just buy a Mp3 player? You can pick your own.
