If they flip, it won't be Jack

Just using logic, if Infinity flips WOGL, I would not expect a Jack format. GM is committed to this format, going so far as changing the calls to WBEN. I do not think Infinity would want a war and compete with another format that is not proven itself so-far. Even though it has been said GM cannot do anything right, I still cannot see two Jack type formats. If the flip occurs, I would expect a Classic Hits or Alternative brand of music. Although they seem to be doing well with Oldies, which is very odd. In this day and age with oldies stations drying up, its almost unbelievable that a station with the same playlist can do so well. Maybe they will just stay status-quo until they drop under a 3.0.

Greater Media was commited to every flavor of the month format as they came along, changing calls with each flip on 95.7. Expect them to fold if Infinity were to flip WOGL to Jack. And don't think that Infinity doesn't know this. GM is a pushover. The only thing they haven't tried, that would probably work for them, is talk. They have a talk station in Boston which I believe does ok. But don't quote me on that. It's a pity they were able to get their mitts on WFLN. The way they carried out that whole affair should have been a sign of things to come. It may not have been a ratings leader, but they delivered whatever audience they had on a consitant basis.

You know, it's interesting that in every convsersation about a format flip-a-roo in philadelphia, people still have hopes of hearing a y100 replacement pop up. The Alt-rock audience has no place to go but back to their Cd players. Alt rock stations have been dropping like flies. Why...because it's not the 90's anymore, and bands like The Strokes and Unwritten Law, and the white stripes and The vines are all trendy and have no longevity on the radio. Alt rock is a nitch, and I can't see WOGL going that way. I'll hazard a guess and say perhaps Infinity might consider something like HotHits WCAU-FM. Loads of people in Phila would listen to that station if it could be recreated correctly. Infinity knows this, and they are also aware of the buzz this idea creates, it's all like a revolution and a wheel. It all keeps going round and round. Alt rock had it's time in the sun, and so did all of those Mowtown oldies. If you notice WOGL has been playing more and more 70's tunes and late 60's stuff. They're trying to appeal to a younger demo, and somewhat pull away from geriatrics patients, or at least it sounds that way. We all will never know until a flip occurs. The only true barometer to gauge is if WOGL's PD comes on here and posts a bit of "insider-info".

I'm getting really sick and tired of hearing about how new rock music is a "niche" format. Many new rock bands have been in the top 10 lately (Coldplay, The Killers, Gorillaz) but get ignored by the boring, bland, and old leaning taste of Philadelphia rock radio. It's a real good idea to ignore people in their 20's. We don't spend money or anything, and we certainly don't listen to the most stale radio market in the nation anymore since Y100s demise to hear new rock music. It's the programmers that are driving young people away from radio and to their iPods and CD players. LONG LIVE Y100 ROCKS!!!!! (And no I don't work there.)

Re: If they flip, it won't be Jack....no alternative rock

>Ok ok, that's all very true, coldplay put out excellent music and deserve their just dues, but Philly is about recycling. It's as if there is no new blood in the DJ line. I mean in Philly the same old jocks bounce around the market like "rubber balls". As for the programmers killing radio....yes that is the death knell of today's radio. They all sound the same, and anymore there is no such thing as a DJ being able to say "here let me turn you on to this new sound from this new band I heard." It's just a reinvention of Payola....from the record companies lips, to the radio suits' ears....to the programmers hands. All the Dj does anymore is frontsell & back sell and say "From their recently released disc, that was Gorillaz with Feel Good Inc, and after the break you'll hear X, Y & Z artists...Next" Trained monkeys is all young DJs have been made to become. Or in the case of Rich Di Sesto or John Russel, who have alot of longevity in Philly, they lack personality and sound either like Announcers or Liner-readers.
I do however agree that Radio in general has become a moldy-stale blast of cold air coming out of my speakers. I only listen to see what songs I should be downloading from any given music service. Other than that thank god for in-dash CD systems.

Geriatrics patiens? My grandparents who listen to oldies are still working! This misconception of "if your older than 55, your dead" needs to stop.

People who like oldies are still a viable ad demo who buy products and need things other than Depends and Metamucil.
