Rush Limbaugh Fired from KCMO; Proof Conservative Radio a Flop

KCMO/Kansas City's decision to send Rush Limbaugh, former KQV night jock, to the showers for his diatribes is all the proof anyone needs that "conservative talk radio" is doomed to fail. Of course, there are the occasional success stories such as Bob Grant in New York. But the big national networks and radio chains continue to avoid it like the plague, as all the major network stars
(Mutual's Larry King, ABC's Michael Jackson and Owen Spann, and NBC's Sally Jessy Raphael) are centrists or liberals. Out in Denver, a leftie named Alan Berg has been driving the posse-comitatus crowd insane on 50,000-watt KOA and could roll into national prominence soon like thunder on the High Plains.

I see your point, but back then there was no indication of a "conservative talk format".
______________

Limbaugh worked at KMBZ in Kansas City, not KCMO.

.......we would have been talking about the wave of top-40/CHR stations moving to talk over the past three years and wondering when WLS-890 in Chicago was going to follow suit and drop music for talk.

...we would not be talking about political talk too much at all.

The format didn't take off until the "Fairness Doctrine" went bye-bye and people could better express their First Amendment rights on the public airwaves. That wasn't the case in 1983 and we had "lifestyle" talk.

Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz...

And to think some people want to bring the "Fairness Doctrine" back. Gag me.

Post 929 dedicated to 92.9 WNDV-FM, South Bend, one of the (now) several CHR's I can pick up... and one of the three I actually like.
______________

How deliciously ironic...you hear the same crap today about "non-political" talk radio. And its detractors are just as wrong.
