I ABSOLUTELY cannot believe KTU is airing country on HD!
I know they were trying to beat whomever else to the punch since there is no country station in NYC. but once again, KTU is mixed up and unfocused even on HD!!!

I realize very few Americans even have HD radios, and that whatever is currently offered on HD-2 could change at a moment's notice but WTF??!!!

Z-100's second channel is New Top 40? And just what exactly is Z playing on its regular station? It's not Golden oldies Top 40 radio.

Z-100 should have either done Global Top 40, similar to Satelitte Radio's U-Pop channel, or Top 40/Oldies.

If Z-100 has a second channel called New Top 40 then shouldn't KTU's second channel be New Dance??

Why is KIIS-FM's second channel not Dance? I mean they feared the Dance formats on 103.1 so much they eliminated them each time. Now KIIS's second channel is something one of the zillion Spanish language stations in town could offer on their second channels. K-Big's second channel isn't Dance either but rather overplayed Disco, which probably isn't all that different from the Jammin Oldies heard on KHHT's second channel.


The biggest WTF though is San Francisco - neither Wild nor KMEL, not even the Hot AC decided to put a CHR/Pop station on their second frequencies. This would have been the perfect market for Top 40 or this "New Top 40" format...

HD Radio - what a joke.
 
XM is the way

As I have said before. The way to go is Sat Rad. The FM folks will pull your chain and, in the end, they will do whatever puts money in heir pocket. In some cases, worse, they'll put on whatever the manager decides is better for whatever reason.

Well I'm listening to "WiLD Espanol" right now. It sounds more like a Dance station than a Rhythmic Top 40 outlet.

Why would you want to compete against yourself? Think about it. Once HD goes into full effect, you start play currents that takes away from your ratings on the main channel. Country is perfect because no one does it and people love it. Means more money for CC

WNEW doing news could be a cheaper move for them. No RIAA to worry about for the most part and since its CBS radio the news is already in house.


Besides whos listening to HD right now anyway?

What they're doing is kind of interesting. They play full albums from pop stars, hosted by Z100 DJs. Still, there's no way there's more demand for that than new dance.

Just goes to show you that even in HD, it's the same old FM. If you're not in the right market, or your local stations are afraid of competing with themselves, you're screwed.

Around 10:20 or so KTU plays Madonna's "sorry" for what its worth.Maybe its their way of apologizing in advance for whats to come.

Based on what I have been reading on what CC, CBS Radio and Emmis are launching in NYC, none of them are going CURRENT with dance. With the way these formats are popping up that are either complete opposites or derivatives of their regular counterparts, my prayer (and I don't see this) would be for WPLJ to go current dance on HD-2. But as I have said, I am not holding my breath for this.

I DO want to check out the old-school hip-hop station that will be on Hot 97 (WQHT) HD-2 channel. PuertoRicanSoul...is this what you were wishing for? :)

Bottom line is that at the moment nobody is listening to HD radio accept online.
How many people are going to spend $500 on a radio?
The price will of course come down but there's no beating satellite radio at the moment.<P ID="signature">______________

Hey some of you guys were predicting "Fresh" Programming with HD side channels as the second coming of Dance. This just proves how much they hate Dance music. I mean you got 2 Satellite Radio services who have no beef with providing over 4 channels each of Dance music from Currents to Underground yet none of terriestrials can even do a Dance Hits format???! Disco on KBIG 2 is a joke. Isnt it oversaturated on KBIG as it is? Espanol KIIS??? Yes all those Latinos who want a Spanish KIIS will sure be early adaptors to buy HD Radio! LOL
News on WNEW???? Wow. Theres something you can't get on NY Radio. What a novel idea. And Country on KTU???? You cant even cross promote it on the main KTU channel! How many Country fans will run out to buy HD Radios for this..


Thank God for XM and Sirius.. You know HD Radio doesn't stand a chance. Not with car makers and not the confusion of Joe Blow who sees the XMs all over the store.
