IF YOU COULD BACK ONE SHOW TO PROVIDENCE?

I stole this from the Boston board but of course there's less of a radio fan base here but pick one show in terms of a specialty one or one dj you would want back.I would have to go with Pete Silva's Hangover Cafe on HJY.I realize the lack of creative programming and lackluster people in Providence radio have pretty much desensitized even radio fans but what's your opinion.

David Simpson formally of PRO-FM was the Best. He made music fun. Very personalble and just a joy to listen to.

As far as Talk goes I would bring John Depetro back to HJJ. Talk radio was alive and well when he was in town, then it seemed to have died when he left. Bring him Back~!

I just had the pleasure of listening to David Simpson on Sunday morning in New York City. After all these years, Simpson is still weekending at WPLJ, fitting perfectly with the format. I remember with great enthusiasm David's "Yeah!" voiceover as his name was sung during one of the sweeps at PRO-FM. I know he went on to work at WTIC-FM in Hartford, and weekended at Mix in Boston as well.

my boy TJ Napp...and his Napp at Night Show

also Magic Mark Anthony..even though there was a bit of perversion in every one of his shows ;)

Where's Kenwood with his Cruisin Bruce post of the month on this one, although I'll admit Bruce is missed. Especially his Saturday night show. In fact any Saturday night show that's done live in Providence would be missed at this point. 4 pages of responses to this one on the Boston board. That says something about the Providence market.

Carolyn Fox & don't say she's no longer relevant. There are people on the air now that were on when she was here. If they're relevant she's relevant.

I could use some Jimmy Gray too.

Carolyn was cool in her day. But I was listening to Howard Stern at about the same time and Carolyn always seemed like she was trying to be the female version of Stern. So I always had the attitude that when you've got the REAL thing you don't need an imitation. Now she's got her life in the burbs bringing up her kids. I don't think she's coming back anytime soon.

Another Carolyn Fox fan here.............

When I was a kid (a long, long time ago in a galaxy...um, never mind) there was a very entertaining guy named Gene Michael McKay on WSVP in West Warwick.

G.Michael McKay! I didn't know he worked at WSVP but he did mornings on WGNG. There's a composite here from 1973 that also includes Bill Silver & Brad Pierce but I guess you have to pay a fee to register to hear it:

I've gotta say, even though I had to give up my Saturday nights for 3 years, I had so much fun producing (and occassionally filling-in on) All Request Saturday Night on B101. It is the only "all request" show I've been associated with where each and every song was a request... no skeleton log. Bruce was also a great guy to get to know over the years and quite a character off the air. I would love to see B101 bring this show back. It's not like you can sell Saturday nights anyway.

Re: My 2 cents..............

Jeff, I have to agree with you. I believe ARSN can sell out if effort was put into it. When I was there it was sold out every week.

Also, I thought the topic was boring so I did nt read it right away.
Ok I'll say it. Bruce Palmer or any real oldies 50's - early 70's request show is missed on B101. I don't think if they had one stinking oldies show on it would hurt them. The crap they run now on Saturday is crap and should be pulled.
Yes, Carolyn Fox with maybe a Saturday night 7-12 on WHJY playing alot of Classic rock and cram packed with her her gimmics may work.

An idea for WHJY. All classic rock Thursday's. They have nt done no repeat Thursday's for about ten years now.

Classic Rock Thursday's Nothing but classic rock......

I would bring back our own "Epsilon's" long running Sunday night show on WRIU, City Beat.

Damn! Busted! How did you figure out it was me?

Also, For reasons that are too complex to explain here, the show's been back for a little over a year now on WSMU/WUMD in North Dartmouth (currently Saturday 9pm - midnight). (End of shameless plug for self.)

Who might you be? Did we ever work together somewhere?

AHA!

Awwww! ::) Thanks wkrp (aka Essence From Swansea!)

My vote goes to "EYE-YAM DAVID SIMPSON!" (YEAH!)

Had the pleasure of following David on air for nearly 5 years! Then got to work with him again at PLJ!

BTW, shameless plug: TJ Napp show is available in Providence via voicetracking! :)

My best to everyone back home!
