Ok, so there's a big full-market signal for sale in Hartford. What would you do if you could buy 104.1?

I'd do 1 of 2 things.

1. Maintain the current format, but definitely liven up the playlist, and through a lot of new stuff in. Leave the AOR for WCCC though.

2. Flip to a CHR format and give Kiss a run for it's money. Think back to the late 80's-early 90's Kiss/TIC war.

Any other thoughts?
 
Make it Radio 104, and buy the traslator for sale in Stamford CT, try to get some of the old jocks back with all the old features. the traslator would allow coverage for stamford CT where all we have is 92.3 k-rock and I would love to put it to shame. there are many artists not being played down here that are rock on 92.3 k-rock. the only blank spot would be the Norwalk Ct area, but it would pretty much cover the entire state except maybe Mystic and the NE(wbcn interference)/NW (mountain blockage) corner in some spots. Give CCC some competition and let the radio wars begin.
Radio wars = Good radio look at philly, Boston, Va beach just to name a few markets.

I hope this is not DX but:
one thing I want to point out is I am located in my apartment (trailer house) on a hill in Saint Johnsbury Vt 152 Mi from the perdue and I am jaming to WBCN... the other 104.1 freq.
I love my sangean HD tuner hooked up to an outside Terk FM pro antenna!

Flip it to Urban A/C . Something like WYBC in New Haven . Or Chr/Pop ( Because Kiss 95.7 S/CKS ).
 
Keep the alternative format.. but much more current with a true alternative playlist like WEQX, Indie 103, etc.

Yeah but One FM Spanish Station ( 104.1 ) will knock off all those Spanish AM stations.
 
One would think that, but are ya sure? We presently have Spanish (part-time or full-time) on 840, 910, 990, 1120 and 1230 (1270 as well if you can pull in Springfield).
 
93.7 was spanish at one time, and didn't go far. Granted, that was several years back now. Philly tried a full-market spanish FM and it was a spectacular failure. No full-market FM in Boston either. Therefore, I doubt it would happen here.

See? AGAIN with the AM stations! We have this new fangled technology around here now called FM. ;D
 
990 doesn't belong in the same catergory as those AM stations mentioned. They're mostly Spanish Religion with some Spanish Contemporary Christian Music thrown in during off hours like on the Weekend. And they sound horrible. They're running an Internet Stream over the air. Go down to Old Turnpike Road in the Plantsville Section of Southington and take a peak inside the studio window.

I also wouldn't throw 1230 into the same catergory. They play music that primarily targets an older audience. They stream. Check out http://www.latina1230.com/

Also there's a reason RUMBA 104.5 in Philly failed. Clear Channel did nothing to promote the station. Very little (if any) advertising. Furthermore since MEGA 1310 still existed people had no reason to search for RUMBA 104.5 on the FM band. If 1310 had ceased to exist their audience probably would've migrated to the FM. The reason MEGA 1310 stayed on the air despite RUMBA 104.5 being in existance is because there was (is) a multiple year LMA or TBA with Davidson Media Group for the station's airtime.
 
Hmmmm.....let's see......If I could buy 104.1 ......... I guess I wouldn't have time to play "fantasy league radio" here any more.......hmmmmm........
 
Yes, I'm sure whoever buys 104.1 will rush to consult this board about what to do in order to maximize their multi-million dollar investment. That frequency's always tried to be a spoiler for someone else since Lite 100.5 spelled the end of Magic 104. In this land of steady habits, consistency at what you do best is always what wins. I'm sure they'll study how viable the present format can be, since that's the most unique thing they've done since 1991. Even with modern rock, they tinkered with Bubba the Love Sponge and all that. If they conclude the format doesn't have staying power, I'm sure they'll have to do their homework instead of just playing around with what some radio guy or outside observer thinks sounds good. Urban AC? Do the research and see if the demand in Hartford is there... stick with it...and prepare to own it. Oh yes, you can still have some fun, too. More free advice from Radio-Info!
 
i'd gut the whole air and production staff off the bat if they are intellectually inferior (which the probability if that is 99%)

i'd staff it with bright intelligent people who know enough about history to know that our society is collapsing, and as such they would be able to speak to the masses about the path we are on using their conscience, since intelligent induviduals would be free to do so. no commericials will be aired which sell products or ideas that are degenerating our civilisation or encouraging the consumerist mentality of the herd.
i'd run the alex jones show as my new's program, since he is one of the few that is pointing out the historical pattern of democracy turning into a totalitarian state.
i would relay CORRUPT radio (www.corrupt.org) since that whole site is dedicated to the idea of parralelism, cultural revival, and many historic writings of Nietzsche, platos, etc. corrupt isnt afraid to point out the concept of crowd-rule which dominates in democracy (democracy fails because it puts people who can't wipe their own ass in a posistion to decide the fate of a nation). this would be a direct 180 from the current leadership in that station and many others which seek to pacify the masses and sell them cheap chinese-made garbage through their sterilised and safe programming.

music-wise it would be nihilistic playing everything from roky erickson to death metal (while leaving out the bands that are on commercial radio today for the most part)

and if i happened to make money, i'd throw busy 103.3 a bone since they are engaging their community and being a voice for the afro-carribean ethnic group, which would go in line with our ideals of cultural revival to resist against the cultural imperialism of mcdonalds and malls for morons
 
Dude, go back and keep smoking whatever you're smoking. That snoring you hear...it's the rest of this board after reading your post. You need a dose of Public Radio.
