IF YOU COULD BUY...

I spoke with Michael Alwood earlier this afternoon, and he was in touch with Gary Richards just yesterday. While I will not go into all the details, it appears St. Gabriel, in spite of the front they are displaying for wanting to expand Catholic radio, simply wanted to get progressive talk off the air in Columbus. In other words, St. Gabriel's intentions appear less than honorable.

We may see a few more changes in the Columbus radio landscape. Stay tuned.

Sean, as usual, you don’t know what you are talking about. When I spoke to you several days ago, you agreed to retract this misinformation that you posted. Obviously you are not a man of your word, so I will set the record straight myself.

At no time have I or anyone at Cowtown Communications ever insinuated that St. Gabriel Radio attempted to purchase WVKO for the purpose of silencing Progressive Talk. On the contrary – I have repeatedly made it very clear that I believe St. Gabriel Radio's sole reason for attempting to purchase WVKO was to air its Catholic programming in Columbus. I have a long and amicable relationship with St. Gabriel Radio, and I don’t appreciate you insinuating that I have made any disparaging remarks about St. Gabriel Radio either publicly or privately.

By the way, you are right about one thing. We will see a few more changes in the Columbus radio landscape. Great move – alienating the one person in radio that was willing to put you on the air.

To Gary (and the rest of you who may be reading this):

First off, I made no such agreement in my telephone conversation with you last Friday about making a retraction. What I did say was that I would refrain from further commenting about WVKO. But since you said I am not a man of my word, I will prove your point.

If you have a good working relationship with the St. Gabriel people, I wish you all the best. However, until now you have never disclosed the true working relationship you had with St. Gabriel. I can only apologize for any rift resulting from the comments.

Following our phone conversation last Friday, I saw Michael Daniels at the Outlook launch party. He confirmed in no uncertain terms that I did not misread or misinterpret the subject of my brief phone conversation with Michael Alwood.

And since you've made your comments, I will share with you an e-mail I received last night from Vern Thompson, Ed Schultz' producer, who I informed about the fundraiser St. Gabriel had to keep the station on the air after July 15. This is what he wrote back regarding another subject where you said I didn't know what I was talking about, Ed's interest in purchasing progressive talk stations across the country:

I'll talk to Ed and a couple of people who were interested in doing
something to save the Eugene, OR station.

I was trying to get Ed and Gary Richards together when Ed spoke in Columbus
last month.

Thanks for the update.

Now that I've said my peace, I hope I won't have to again prove your point about not being a man of my word.

This is my final post on this matter. This is all very inappropriate for this forum, and I shound never have addressed it here in the first place. First, you have selective memory. Second, Michael Daniels has nothing to do with any of this, and certainly was not privy to the original conversation with Michael Alwood you referred to. And third, Vern never said (but you did) that Ed was interested in buying WVKO. He mentioned "a couple of people who were interested in doing something to save the Eugene, OR station."

I'm sure Vern, Ed, and the Michaels will appreciate you sharing confidentialities with total strangers on the Internet as much as I do. I'm also sure that you will have to have the last word. Have at it. I'm done here.
