Out of curiousity why would you ever want to get rid of a historic 3 letter call such as WIP.....anyone who does this should be shot for sheer stupidity.

It's not that, it's that to me the WYSP call letters fit better with the Progressive Talk format.

In any number of cases, those 3 letter calls had fallen into a poor image position... either associated with something old fashioned or, worse, just something bad. At that point, either minimizing the calls to the legal ID and using a name or changing calls is a requirement.

this is funy - i think about this topic
when the power ball hits (triple) digits,
as your take home pay/after taxes...

Since Im in Buffalo ::: WJYE, 96.1 and WBUF 92.9
96.1 fm is an a/c - I would blend it into a hot a/c
and soon morph it into a "pop" FM/light chr/dance lean..

92.9,wbuf is on a wheel of format changes, so I would
keep it jack-FM (for now) and update/transition it from somewhat
classic rock, to modern-Rock w/ a handful of "Gold" (90s)rock..
with the Jack moniker, but add talents and then have an
online(or "facebook" ) vote/contest::: of a new name
(suiting buffalo). But, make it clear it is the people's (listeners)
choice to change the name...
-
I was going to start a new thread/post, but here is as good as any::::

Sure, your take home paycheck will be 100+million plus from the powerball,
ok, so you Could get an LA Cluster (and over pay) your total winnings;
or you could get a stand alone AM stick in Utah, or small town Iowa,

but some where in the middle, do you think clusters in medium to
large size markets ? including the big names (entercomm; citadel/cumulus;
Townsquare Media, etc) would sell off the ENTIRE Market ?
and if so, how much -

(my dream would be acquire townsquare,Buffalo) as mentioned above
even if in part of the cluster, and the rochester,ny entercomm cluster!

Current stations or back in the day?

If current I would buy WDDZ-AM 1250 in Pittsburgh and ditch both the
Radio Disney and the IBOC. Because I firmly believe in reducing air pollution.

I would also buy WAOB, the Catholic cluster in Pittsburgh, because their programming
is so incredibly inept that as a Catholic I find it embarrassing when my non-Catholic
friends listen to it and then ask me just what sort of whacked-out religion this is which I belong to.

If back in the day, I'd buy WTAE-AM in Pittsburgh, because it was just a really,
really great radio station and I'd love to have taken credit for it.

And I'd buy WOWO because I am a big hockey fan and firmly believe that you should
be able to hear minor league hockey play-by-play on Jupiter.

Well, then I'd probably opt for the two most valuable stations in the US - which is probably not what you really meant.

My thoughts exactly. I'll take the two most profitable stations in the country, please.

AM HD, yes...multicast, no.

UPDATE for my dream station

94.1 HD-1 Active Rock
94.1 HD-2 Country
94.1 HD-3 610 WYSP Talks
94.1 HD-4 CHR "Now 94.1 FM"

Two crown jewels of the CBS New York cluster, WFAN (660) and WCBS (880)...or alternately, WCBS-AM 880 and WCBS-FM 101.1, arguably the best in the country in their respective formats (wall to wall news plus Yankee baseball on AM, and personality classic hits on FM).
