I could see 97.1 or 102.9 flipping to Country… I’m sure IHM would use Bobby Bones as the morning show.
They did talk in the late 80s, but it was on Sunday nights, maybe for public service requirements. Here’s an example, kind of cool to hear Kidd Kraddick doing a talk show:Would you want to work on New Year's Day? I doubt it. That's why it's unlikely any format change that involves staffing will happen on a holiday.
Here's what we know: The station flipped to talk on 10/3/22. They hired a new PD over the summer, and changes were made:

97.1 The Freak Revamps Schedule Under New Program Director
iHeartMedia Sports/Hot Talk "97.1 The Freak" KEGL Fort Worth/Dallas TX will be revamping its programming lineup on Monday, July 24.radioinsight.com
The ratings have improved by 50% since the summer. That doesn't mean much when you start at a 1 share.
But I don't expect any substantial change until next summer. Even then, it would be another tweak.
I was a big fan of it at the time. Seems like the Kennedy Assassination was a big topic a lot of nights. They did talk in the late 80s, but it was on Sunday nights, maybe for public service requirements. Here’s an example, kind of cool to hear Kidd Kraddick doing a talk show:
From what I've seen, they've had their highest ratings (of the 21st century at least) as La Preciosa, the industry has changed now, but with ZonaMX on it's way out, KEGL flipping back to Regional Mexican could fill the hole. It's inevitable. KEGL format flip. 1/1/2024?
If you were gonna change it, what would you change it to?
La Preciosa was not Regional Mexican. Nielsen created the Spanish Adult Hits for the format created at KRCD in LA as "Recuerdo" and later copied at Clear Channel as "La Preciosa".From what I've seen, they've had their highest ratings (of the 21st century at least) as La Preciosa, the industry has changed now, but with ZonaMX on it's way out, KEGL flipping back to Regional Mexican could fill the hole.
Oh. Thanks for explaining that.La Preciosa was not Regional Mexican. Nielsen created the Spanish Adult Hits for the format created at KRCD in LA as "Recuerdo" and later copied at Clear Channel as "La Preciosa".
"Recuerdo" has been gone for quite some time, so I guess bringing Spanish Adult Hits back could increase the ratings of KEGL.The Adult Hits format was dropped when HBC put Recuerdo on in Dallas and the ratings declined by more than 60% from their peak.
It's a format that was based initially on 60's and 70's pop, ranchera, grupera and ballads. Too old an audience today. It was 35+ in 2000 so that means 55+ today.Oh. Thanks for explaining that.

I would flip it to an all 80's and 90's pop and ballads format. (Zezé Di Camargo & Luciano, José José, Chayanne, Carlos Vives, etc etc.)It's a format that was based initially on 60's and 70's pop, ranchera, grupera and ballads. Too old an audience today. It was 35+ in 2000 so that means 55+ today.
Recuerdo has, from what I've seen, always been successful in it's hometown of Los Angeles. An updated version, still called Recuerdo, is on the KRCD/KRCV simulcast in LA. It has been as high as the #2 rated Spanish station recently.
I would think back to rock as the Eagle. Judging by what we‘ve seen with other rock stations across the country and I’m sure they’d love to take out 103.7. It’s the most inexpensive and reasonable optionIt's inevitable. KEGL format flip. 1/1/2024?
If you were gonna change it, what would you change it to?
I’m buying what you’re saying, because you’ve been in the building before. But, what do you do with all of the shows/contracts?It's inevitable. KEGL format flip. 1/1/2024?
If you were gonna change it, what would you change it to?
it costs too much money to change formats now. At least the Eagle is a brand people know that costs nothing to bring backI really don't see IHeart bringing rock back, the remains of the Russ Martin Show aka The Treehouse, or flipping it into a format in Spanish, especially with the Mavs radio rights in play, if they have a clause in their contract that has 97.1 being the only place for the Mavs and it can not be moved to 92.5 KZPS, 102.1 KDGE, 120.9 KDMX, 106.1 KHKS or any other iHeart stations in the market.
I think that is very unlikely. Less likely than a run at country market.I could also see KEGL becoming “DFW’s #1 Home for Hip-Hop, and R&B and the Home of The Breakfast Club… Real 97.1!”
let it go, The Eagle is dead on traditional radio, it's on streaming and HD2, no need to bring back a format demoted to HD/Streaming when you just gonna hire the same people to run it poorly.it costs too much money to change formats now. At least the Eagle is a brand people know that costs nothing to bring back
