IFC Commercials

Turned on IFC today and they are now running commercials breaks within the movies. I always knew they would run spots between the movies, but they have apparently joined the ranks of being just another TV channel by placing that garbage within their movies. When did they start that? Just another reason why Netflix is looking real good these days.

From what I have heard, on December 10. Yes, Not that much surprised at all, since IFC's owner (Rainbow) also owns AMC and they changed American Movie Classics about a decade ago. Now i wonder when they will add commercials to The Sundance Channel.

...I thought Sundance was part of the Showtime/TMC premium packaging. Is it being offered in basic packages anywhere?...

IFC's programming is now censored as well. Watching original series The Whitest Kids U Know (billed as Uncensored Sketch Comedy) is now impossible.

I know this changes my former position, but bring on Ala Carte. I don't want another cable dollar I pay to go to paying for this channel.

I'm in Canada, where we get this channel: http://www.ifctv.ca/

Is it the same channel? Or a completely different one? Currently, Shaw owns the rights to that station in Canada...(or at least the right to air Canadian ads instead of American ones...?)

It's a completely different one, with completely different owners (Shaw Media). As with the US version, it has commercials. In addition, it shows mainstream films from major studios, as well as some programs to meet Cancon requirements. The IFC name and logo was licensed from the Us channel.

Comcast in my area offers "Sundance Channel" as part of their Digital Preferred package that also includes IFC, Turner Classic Movies, Fuse, GAC, Oxygen, etc, etc........

IFC is *not* censoring their programming. From Dusk Till Dawn and Reservoir Dogs aired recently; neither was censored for gore or profanity, and I've watched a few movies on there as well, and their respective violent/profane content was left intact.

You're correct (well, and partially incorrect, as of now, but I'll get to that). I contacted someone over at IFC and they said that they do NOT censor their programming, so I called them out because the sketch comedy show The Whitest Kids U Know was, and currently still is, HEAVILY censored. I was told that this was done in error, and after so many people called them on the inconsistency, they have decided to reverse the decision. Uncensored episodes of the aforementioned show should return in January sometime.

As far as adding commercials, yeah its disappointing, but I DVR everything anyways, so I'll just skip them. (Funny thing is, in the article mentioning the format change, they mentioned that IFC is one of the heaviest DVR'ed channels on cable, so I think they just shot themselves in the foot regardless).

Then why did they show the censored version in the first place? It's just like showing "The Sopranos" on the late, unlamented Pax network.
