WSB-TV announced today that they will add an hour of local news at 4pm to replace Oprah when her broadcast tv show ends. They said about 20 more staffers will be hired due to the expansion. So this will give Action News a 3 hour block of news in the evening as ABC World News will continue at 7pm. No word on anchors yet since I doubt Jovita and Justin will do the entire 3 hour block...I would assume if MOnica is still there she will only be on the 6pm news.

I'm not at all surprised. What I'd like to know now is
if, come next September, 11 Alive can move Dr. Phil
to 4 and start a new 5 PM newscast.

It's all about the local $$$! Cox is always looking to make a buck and not care about its audience. Who needs all this news!!!

So the 4:10 story will be repeated at 4:45, 5:15, 5:40, 6:20 and 6:55.

Breaking news will be replaced by continuing coverage.

That and the fact that there is more money to made with news over another syndicated show. I just wonder whatever happened to the idea of "original local programming" aside from airing a newscast. ???

Runors are WSB tried to save even more money and approached Don Kennedy to revive his old Popeye Club (almost the same timeslot) but he declined. :p

Uh yeah, too bad the FCC laxed the E/I programming requirements on weekdays about 10 years ago... ::)

I'm talking about public affairs, local talk, or local features programming unique to Metro Atlanta and north Georgia. Considering the pot of money WSB-TV has from Cox to still produce "High Q", "People 2 People", and other local weekend programs they could do a weekday show right without it being a giant "product placement" fest like most other stations.

You're right of course. I was just kidding & wasn't serious.

Does CBS Atlanta's 4pm news have that much of an impact? I wonder if this will be the new trend along the East Coast since Oprah airs at 4pm ET in most cities.
