Her previous single, "Need to Know," got four spins yesterday. For whatever reason, KMXV must feel that song is still too strong in KC to push a new release yet. Some stations have a reputation for being ultra-cautious in adding songs. Maybe KMXV is one of them.I noticed when looking at the playlist for KMXV (Mix 93.3) that it completely ignores the Doja Cat song "Woman" which is currently #1 on the CHR charts. This is peculiar. Is there a reason for this? I haven't seen any other CHR station do anything like this for years.
I think they are. Even things in the Top 20 like "The Motto" only get nighttime play. Her previous single, "Need to Know," got four spins yesterday. No must-play requirement in radio. My guess is they tested the song off air and it failed.I noticed when looking at the playlist for KMXV (Mix 93.3) that it completely ignores the Doja Cat song "Woman" which is currently #1 on the CHR charts. It got one spin yesterday on the station and two today (one in the 5 p.m. hour and one in the 7 p.m. hour). One of those times was in the Rick Dees Weekly Top 40 (which is one of the few CHRs which still carries this show.) From what I can tell, their competitor KCHZ (95.7 The Vibe) plays all those songs, but doesn't do well at all in the 6+ ratings (only a 1.8 last month and never getting above a 2.0 in over 6 months, so they're probably mainly trying to compete against KZPT (99.7 The point.)According to Mediabase, the station first played the song on 1/11/22, and it has received 269 spins since then.
They played it 7 times last week, and 5 times this week. It is at #80 in this week's playlist.
Kiss Me More is #22 and Say So is #26 in their current playlist. Need To Know is #43
They're also not playing Tyga's "Freaky Deaky" f/Doja Cat.
But, how could that be? I liked that song, so every station should be required to play it!According to Mediabase, the station first played the song on 1/11/22, and it has received 269 spins since then.

KMXV is owned by Steel City Media and they have the 100kw signal. Steel city is limited to Kansas City and Pittsburgh for now.
I'm not saying its not a good thing. I'd be glad if more stations followed suit. I just started this thread because I thought it was interesting. So then they're not "ignoring a #1 hit." They're simply playing it less frequently than everyone else.
Which is great, because it confirms that they're using a locally based playlist, not one mandated by corporate.

It's why I like smaller groups like Steel City vs. large conglomerates like Audacy or iHeart which have less individuality. It's why the music charts insist on local reporters who use local playlists rather than following corporate edicts. If everyone played songs the same way, there'd be no need for reporters and charts would be a sham.

What's that? However, they are all subject to the same rules imposed by the two trade charts.
What's that?
How would it "mirror a company playlist."They must play a certain percentage of currents, and they must have a local music director, who regularly takes calls from record label promotion staff, If the percentage drops below the minimum, or it appears the playlist mirrors a company playlist, they get dropped.

Good point I left it in cliffhangers here. Sure the station is owned by Steel city but then again if KMXV is going to keep the CHR format it is subjected to keep up with trends from hosts to playlists to keep the median audience.Your point? you provide no info most of us dont already know or cant find out easily and youve haded absolutely zero worthwhile content to this conversation
It sounds a heck of a lot better of a CHR than its rival in town--95.7 The Vibe KCHZ owned by Cumulus. Today, on there they spun "Kiss Me Thru the Phone" by Soulja Boy.😖Good point I left it in cliffhangers here.
