iHeart gets most stations; 98.5 to Beasley

Since iHeartMedia is divesting WKOX, could they swap that station to RenewFM for their 103.7 translator? They could use the translator to simulcast either WRKO or WBZ.

Remember when you and TheBigA tried to debunk my rumors about iHeartMedia selling stations within the Virginia/Carolina region? I was actually right about iHeartMedia selling stations in that region as they're trading their Richmond cluster to Entercom.

They didn't sell anything. Trading isn't the same as selling. And Chattanooga isn't in Carolina.

I know that Chattanooga isn't in Carolina. In fact, I didn't think that iHeartMedia would be trading their Chattanooga cluster to Entercom for their divestitures in Boston and Seattle. I was thinking that iHeartMedia would trade one or two of their clusters in the Virginia/Carolina region to Entercom for CBS Radio spinoffs.

Greater Media, now Beasley, did 96.9 FM Talk from '99 to a few years ago.It did OK but they decided to flip to music.Would iHeart flip an FM to a simulcast or move of WRKO or WBZ?

iHeart (orig Clear Channel) tried prog talk on 1200 and 1430, 2004-06.By 2010 they tried Rush Radio on 1200 then dumped it (did have local hosts, Katz and Severin) and by summer of 2015, they put cons talk on 1430 to clear shows.Maybe RKO under iHR could be RKO local shows plus Rush and Sean..maybe Rush instead of Kuhner at noon (though he may do OK now), delayed Hannity after Howie (who is a syndicated show but local focus in part).

WKOX 1430 is on WBWL's HD2 but how many people have HD radios?
Many people feel political talk is dead and it has an older demo but Ent. stuck with RKO talk all these years, and WBZ has Rea.Would an RKO on 101.7 work out?
I think a simulcast (680/101.7 for example) has to be 100% to count in ratings. When WEEI went to 93.7 in Sep of 2011, they simulcast on 850 (local shows etc) 100 per cent. After a year 850 switched to all ESPN.Maybe they get paid to run it? 850 may be directional at night but still has a pretty good signal. The station that had Red Sox for years etc. 850 will still be used for ESPN and spillover sports, I'd think.

So would an RKO or BZ on FM be worth it? Would they simulcast or change the AM? And does iHeart want to dump Jam'n or country? BWL does trail KLB but does half decent.
97.7? Does iHeart want to change that?

As has been said here I believe it's also interesting that Entercom will own both Mix and Magic.Similar formats and audiences, or slightly different..what happens there?

Between those two stations and AMP, that's a lot of female audience Entercom has never had in Boston. If I were a betting man, I would guess one of the three becomes something else.

I wouldn't be surprised if all stayed the same or had just minor tweaks. The female audience is extremely lucrative, and you almost have to go through Entercom to get it in Boston. I can't imagine wanting to give that advantage up. Keep in mind also that Entercom runs CHR/Hot AC/AC combos in a few places and makes money off of them.

In many markets, one company will own both Country stations or both AC stations. This way, you prevent someone else from trying to compete against you. Sure, neither one station will typically get huge ratings, but combine the two and you've got the format wrapped up nicely.

Now what is the advantage to doing that?

It's just that a lot of people are spreading rumors about ALT 92.9 flipping formats. As Kent pointed out, Entercom's settlement with the DOJ requires the intellectual property going along with the license. So that means Magic will not move to 92.9.

Per Boston Globe, WBZ staffers will have to re-apply for their current positions.https://www.bostonglobe.com/metro/2...-their-jobs/Q8ZIoWcVH5bEPSN1Yy1kvM/story.html

That is actually pretty normal in an asset sale. The buyer is not acquiring existing shares of an ongoing business, but the assets of a particular part of a business that are being spun off (which may be listed as a separate company that just holds that one license). Under such conditions, the sales contract will determine who pays things like severance, cancellation of service contracts the new owner does not want, the disposition of receivables, etc. Certain state and Federal laws may come into play here, too.

In many such cases, "old" employees have to be rehired by the new owner as there is no continuity between the prior employer and the new one.

In the worst of cases, when a new owner intends to change format and management, the seller may be required to provide severance for all employees, and that condition is taken into account in the overall sale price.

On the other hand, the rest of the Entercom / CBS fusion is a merger, and there is continuity. So the employees of the CBS stations that go to the new Entercom won't have to be "rehired".
