iheart to launch black information network on WGST

Blackjack Mountain- TV46 had a microwave relay site there for ENG. The Shepard tower- I heard the company who built the tower went bankrupt the day after it was erected in '69 (or so) and Clyde got control of it for a dollar. Believe Bill Rudd told me that story.
WeatherChron- I've driven by there many times on New Peachtree Rd in Chamblee.

Kf follow up

Well Bill Rudd was my teacher in Broadcasting eng school,I do know that the top fourth of the tower was going up from the ground, when they caught the mistake, took it all back down stated from the bottom. The old tower is still there lacking the weight load of the new tower, see the tower legs of the new tower is 6" were the old were 3"I was told the top carry weight is 21 tons. There is a lot less weight up there now.

More on Shepard Tower

Until about 1984 all of those stations were operating on a CP. Jefferson-Pilot (WQXI) had filed a complaint with the FCC saying that the tower's presence screwed up their pattern. Tribune Corporate engineering hired a consultant to see what the problem was. Turns out one of the radio engineers over at Lenox Rd site, had removed some traps causing all kinds of problems including negative towers, etc.

Yeah Lou

It was more likely 970 Khz and 1190 Khz ,three stations on one tower at the railroad tracks on Lenox Rd. The same tower now has WMLB 1690 Khz as well.thats a hard match to keep right. And Fried Covington was the dial in weather voice

Thanks Lou for that input

Kf4rca is Lou but thanks for that its sad loss of almost 70 years of radio call sign

At least its still in Georgia rather than Boise or Dubuque or Teaneck.

Found out that WGUN went to Valdosta one of the old Rivers station

At least its still in Georgia rather than Boise or Dubuque or Teaneck.
