iHeartMedia Bloodbath- Local Layoffs

I do want personalities to be someone who is making a connection with the audience/community. That was something special and good about radio that I believe was something that endeared listeners to the medium. In 2020, it's all but missing.

Huh? On what station? Lots of local personalities in Philly. On just about every station. Would you like me to name them all?

What I see is listeners don't really view people on the radio in the same way anymore.

That seems fair. My highly limited focus group (TM) of those coming of age provided a pained roll of the eyes when asked if it mattered where a person “on the radio” was. Short version: no. Or “Ugh, you old dinosaur, of course not” if I’m reading between the sighs.

Their affinity, to the degree it will be formed, may well be very different than what formed my affinity. And so the circle of life goes.

Also: I meant to give props for coming up with Sheboygan as an example. You could sit me down and tell me to start naming American towns and I'd probably get through ten thousand or so before I'd be able to come up with Sheboygan!

Ask any K-Love listener or donor how much they care that the jocks aren't in there home town.

That’s fair—or Sirius XM as another example.

My sense is it’s a function of the world in which this audience is immersed. They are exposed to people all over the world daily—why would it matter if the person periodically saying something about the music happens to be here or in Ottumwa?

We already embraced Stern and Limbaugh (as two examples...and “we” used generally). Technology is making it easier to build on the model with more flexibility.

As someone who grew up on WIP of yore, it feels subjectively strange but objectively logical.
