iHeartMedia Seeks To Increase Its Foreign Ownership

That the Sen could be using his elected position to influence approval. The Ethics rules require even the avoidance of an appearance of impropriety, and this fails that test. The question is obvious. I didn't say he actually was being lobbied, only that it raises questions. It does, legitimate ones. Public servants need to forfeit certain things, this is one of them.

News flash: Lobbyists exist for precisely this purpose, to influence members of Congress and the Senate to gain favor for the company the lobbyist works-for. A certain well known Senator, who was on the Defense Budget Appropriations Committee, also held quite a bit of stock with Raytheon. Was there influence that personally benefited the Senator? None that was ever investigated. Tis the way of the world.

That the Sen could be using his elected position to influence approval.

Huh? I'm trying to figure out what you're talking about. Approval of WHAT? His wife willingly bought some stock. Using her money. She wasn't given stock as a gift. So the company didn't lobby his wife. If the company was trying to influence someone, it wouldn't be Blumenthal. Are you saying his wife is lobbying him? To do what? There is no legislation involved. He's in the minority party in the Senate. The Senate is not involved in FCC or DOJ approval. He has NO INFLUENCE over the FCC. He's not even a ranking member. This particular FCC has sought to loosen ownership rules since Pai became Chairman. These companies are trying to get this done while they have a favorable FCC. Democrats OPPOSE loosening ownership rules.

You want public servants to forfeit certain things? I'm all for it. Let's start with the president.

It took an entire year but on Friday, the FCC has agreed to allow Cumulus to increase foreign ownership to 100%]

Additional approval would be required if a previously unnamed foreign entity acquires 5% or more of the company, or if any foreign entity attempts to gain control of the company..

Still pending is the iHeart application, made earlier this year.
