iHeartMedia Trust Donates Boston AM 1430

More preaching.

Yes, a family spinoff of Salem Broadcasting. I’m curious what they will propose for the new transmitter site, and where? If it doesn’t continue to be very directional at night, it will have to either go down to flea power after sunset or become daytime only.

Or worse, it will go off the air!

Why would they acquire it just to take it off the air, unless you mean just go off the air at night (that's what I meant by "become daytime only").

At night it has to protect stations in NJ, upstate NY, and elsewhere. The station was a non-directional 5,000 watt daytimer only until the late '80s, when it added extremely directional 1000 watt night service, aimed mainly toward the North Shore and the north suburbs within Route 128. It isn't allowed to send much power anywhere else. The night signal only reaches the parts of Boston and nearby points south that are right along the coast, carried over the water.

If they're really ambitious and have some money, I wonder if they could build a directional site somewhere southwest of Boston, and send more power northeast from there, covering more of the greater Boston area while still protecting the NY and NJ stations?

that last idea would be incredibly cost prohibitive and stupid

I don't know towers well enough to tell you what would be most likely, but I'm guessing it will diplex onto an existing Salem transmitter site. After all, Salem owns at least a couple stations around Boston.

And it is a "for profit" organization? (Though maybe the "educational" meant it was more of an EMF model.)
Surprised they are purchasing properties that compete with Salem facilities

They aren't purchasing. The OP says it was donated. They can only donate to a non-profit.

you can donate to anyone you want.. Iheart couldve given me the station for free, im an individual.. they just wouldnt get any kind of tax write off/credit for giving it to me.

getting on a Salem tower that is going to give them night coverage in Everett might be problematic, the WROL tower is an option, the WEZE tower about a half mile a way at Wellington Circle would save them the COL change

The tower rent at the old WXKS facility is what croaked WILD forcing a sale, the evil empire sold it off about 6 years ago with a few hundred others to raise cash, and that is the tower where WILD and WKOX 1430 are diplexed
