i think iheart should have done to 105.7 what they did to 102.9 in Charlotte NC and debuted a Adult Hits format after the virus was over. 102.9 the lake is a ratings success and it used to compete with the very high rated WKQC in charlotte

Have you ever been to Atlanta? About a half million Hispanics. That's a lot more than in Charlotte.

They invested money in 105.3, and by spreading it to 105.7 gets them more value for the same expense.

The one caveat about Atlanta: there is a mix of Mexican and Caribbean origin Hispanics. The Caribbean group is predominantly Puerto Rican, and have a high propensity for English language stations as their favorite stations "back home" played English language music. On the other hand, the Mexican origin community favors Regional Mexican music.

The one common factor among younger Hispanics and young second generation is Reggaeton music, the genre comparable to hip-hop and which has almost universal Hispanic appeal across all areas of Latin America.

According to AllAccess ratings page, Atlanta is 10% Hispanic vs Charlotte 9%. I'm sure DavidEduardo will correct this stat, but appears to be a similar comp.

The AllAccess data comes from Nielsen and is based on 6+ population in PPM markets.

But having the 8th market with double the population of market 23 makes a big difference as to how much money is available for a Spanish language station. Charlotte is not even in the top 30 US markets for Hispanic population, making it not come up for lots of national Hispanic ad buys.

Speaking of Latino radio in Charlotte--

Atlanta-based Norsan Group, owned by Georgia Tech alum Norberto Sanchez, has a huge group of Latino radio stations across the Carolinas.

For those of you in Atlanta, Sanchez started La Cazuela Mexican Restaurant and changed the name to Frontera Mex-Mex when he split the business with his partner (who got to keep the La Cazuela name). He also owns several white-tablecloth restaurants in Atlanta as well, and his own meat company.
