Do you think that it's a possiblity that Iheart will rehire the people it's laid off if the economic situation ever recovers

I know several people who've been hired & fired several times by iHeart. I just saw a talent fired by iHeart Chicago was just hired by iHeart Nashville.

I don't think iHeart, particularly with the new owner, believes much in local radio except in formats like all sports and all news.

How many all news and all sports stations do they own?

About 60 all sports stations (a couple call themselves "sports/Talk" which would be a blend, like KOA does.

All news is zero, but you have WBZ and a couple of others that are mostly news.

iHeart is centralizing operations. While they are cutting around the country, they are hiring at their hub in Nashville.

I agree. I believe Pittman and his crew, familiar with networked music radio in the rest of the world, are trying to develop that model in the US with consideration for time zones and locally inserted things like service elements and the like.

I even think that this may eventually produce exchanges of stations and associations with smaller operators to achieve national coverage... or close to such... for specific formats.

That's what Premiere Radio Networks is for. They handle all of the major shows and get them on non-owned stations in markets where iHeart doesn't own stations in that format. They put the programming on a platform that's accessible to outside stations.
