iHM is getting ready to do what Entercom or Cumulus should've done YEARS ago...

What's interesting tho is they hired 2 new live/local jocks. Ethan Cole (Afternoons) and MiKeith (Evenings). Both are actually live, in-studio down at iHeart Atlanta. Plus they're both constantly interactive with local listeners. This is something that Maddox hardly ever did on the air the whole 9 years he was there. Whats more is that both of these new guys sound quite good actually.

So, at least for me… it's a little surprising that they're willing to blow up the whole station after just hiring two new live/local talents.
I agree with you. I'll believe this format flip if/when it happens.

Also agree that Ethan Cole and MiKeith sound good. Ethan is much more the prototypical iHeart CHR jock than Maddox. Maddox still does some weekend shifts for Power, probably voice tracked.

What would be a good reason or two for iHeart ditching or moving Power 96.1 for The Breeze?! I'd be curious to hear your insights.

POWER 96.1 now has TV commercials promoting it’s new morning show and advertising the most hit music in ATL. Trust me, POWER 96.1 isn’t flipping! 96.7 is the testing station that will more than likely get The Breeze

iHeart has always managed to make surprise moves. While it seems unlikely Power 96.1 will flip, no one could have predicted 94.9 Lite FM would flip to country, one week before Christmas no less. Basically what ever they have brewing will be a surprise no one saw coming.

After seeing the ratings from this past month, it is becoming more unlikely that iHeart will axe Power 96.1 signal for the Breeze. I think, if they do however, it will come down as one of the biggest and most shocking radio flips of the decade. Ryan Seacrest, a native of ATL, will not have a home there. It would be disappointing if the Breeze debuts on 96.7FM but wouldn't put it past them. I believe 105.3 or 105.7 have a better signal, but that is unlikely for the Breeze to be placed on either of those two. Memorial Day weekend is approaching.

In the last book it looked like of all of the full-power, intown stations the one that was doing the worst for the last few months was Kicks.

If iHeart or anyone else is planning on bringing a soft rock format to ATL, they will have to go big, as in a big enough signal which can penetrate office buildings in the city. With B98.5 owning the 'listen at work' mantle outright, any challenger will have to bring their A game. Basically, the "Breeze" or whatever moniker is used will either go on a full-power signal or it will not happen at all.

You make a couple of really good points.

There's not a lot they could do with that 96.7 signal. It's small and pretty much limited to the south side. No matter the format, it's not going to get ratings in the Atlanta metro.

Maybe they figure The Breeze would be as good as anything they could put on it, and think perhaps they could get some hyper-local business by attracting some of the fairly sizeable retiree population in that area.

I, too, agree. Which is why I am not confident that the Breeze would be able to generate the hype and expectations that B98.5 already has. It would be great if they would bring back the "Peach" moniker to ATL and make them their #1 AC station in the market with the expectation of them playing 100% Christmas music come November. iHeart needs to overpresent themselves if they want to launch the Breeze and by that, they should grow a pair and swap Power 96.1 to 105.7. Putting any format on 96.7 is a lose-lose situation for anyone. What a disappointment that would be if the Breeze comes to 96.7.

But realistically, would you blow up a station that is getting great young audience demos for a format that will attract boomers and not sell well? They already have that demo listening to WUBL. If they only have two full market signals, why have both of them reach the same audience?

Is country today really a "boomer" format? It might have been when the boomers were 25-54, but that was more of a function of them being young. Country has always done better (like in the 90s) when it is popular in-demo. How do Kicks and Bull look in 25-54?

In other words, if WUBL is primarily a boomer pull, that's a problem.

They wouldn't move Power 96-1 to 105.7. The 105.7 signal is too limited except for the northeast portion of the market. And 105.7's ratings notwithstanding, they get on virtually every Latino radio buy in the Atlanta market.

Well...(I know, that’s a deep subject) This week, I actually spoke directly with a few folks from inside of iHeart Media and former iHeart Media DJs of Atlanta radio history who can confirm it looks like the flipping will be happening very quickly and maybe even sooner than folks on here are expecting . going live as well as other changes starting this weekend. I do have a funny nostalgic feeling many are gonna like this changes as well! Might be quite a few surprises next week. That’s all I’m able to share for now. Have a great weekend everybody!!! Maybe a few hours, days soon filled with soft adult contemporary and pure rock’s rolls music very, very soon.
