iHM is getting ready to do what Entercom or Cumulus should've done YEARS ago...

Well...(I know, that’s a deep subject) This week, I actually spoke directly with a few folks from inside of iHeart Media and former iHeart Media DJs of Atlanta radio history who can confirm it looks like the flipping will be happening very quickly and maybe even sooner than folks on here are expecting . going live as well as other changes starting this weekend. I do have a funny nostalgic feeling many are gonna like this changes as well! Might be quite a few surprises next week. That’s all I’m able to share for now. Have a great weekend everybody!!! Maybe a few hours, days soon filled with soft adult contemporary and pure rock’s rolls music very, very soon.
Great… and those of us that want a full-on Atlanta Top40 station will (again) be left with Cumulus' dayparted, adult-leaning Q997… in the 8th largest market. Their HD signal is still horrendous and over modulated. Guess I'm back to plugging in my phone to my car and streaming radio from another city. 🙄

Atlanta's MSA is now less than 45% non-Hispanic white. That means that a conventional Top 40/CHR is much more limited than a rhythmic CHR or Churban.

Because of the ethnic composition of the market, even the non-Hispanic whites are considerably influenced by rhythmic music, so the appeal of a less rhythmic CHR is even further limited.

This doesn’t confirm if the potential flip is on 96.1 or 96.7. My bet is that 96.7 gets flipped.

Atlanta's MSA is less than 45% non-Hispanic white. And that group is influence by the in-market preponderance of rhythmic music. There is just no market of a straight-ahead CHR.

Yeah I hear you and I'm a bit old school in my way of thinking I know that… power is finally sounding a lot better all their new jocks they've hired ARE local and are always interacting with local listeners, they play rhythmic hits at all parts of the day which, in my old way of thinking is how I think a full on Top40 station should be. It's just sad… Power961 is a fun, energetic station… Hate to see it go. 😥

One programming note…Power 96.1 moved the iHeart Radio Countdown from Saturday mornings to Sunday night 10p-midnight to accommodate reruns of the Jubal show on Saturday mornings.

I’m not the biggest fan of CHR but my buddy is. I had him listen to 96.1 and 99.7. He by far favors 99.7 and in his eyes, 99.7 plays less commercials (may or may not be true) and he likes the Burt Show. His taste in CHR is more rhythmic and feels there is little if any difference between the music on both stations. He said if anything, 96.1 plays less older stuff. I asked him if 96.1 seems more dance or hip hop’ish and he said no. I’m bringing this up because I don’t see Q997 being as hot ac leaning as it once was say four or five years ago. I could be wrong but it appears power no longer has EDM music.
