IKE REMNANTS TAKE LOCALS OFF, A FEW NEW ONES

Last Sunday what was left of Hurricane Ike wreaked havoc on Southwestern Ohio with hurricane force winds. Many people are still without power after a week. This was the first time I had noted several of our locals off the air in the Dayton/Cincy area. Now, 70 mile an hour winds don't lead to tropo layers forming, but here's my report.

SUNDAY, Sept. 14

At various times, 1290 WHIO and 1410 WING noted off the air from Dayton. Just a very low unintelligible jumble on each, and the ability to hear WONW in Defiance on 1280. 1160 WDJO was off (usually gets overpowered toward sunset by WYLL in/near Chicago anyway. 1110 and 1500 from Xenia were off, and I did note Detroit's 1500.

FM Dial: 92.1 WROU was off, nothing noted in its place (likely candidate would be Lima/Wapakoneta)
92.9 WGTZ nothing, during other times they've been off have picked up Lexington
95.7 WHIO-FM, the Louisville country station
100.7 WEEC was actually off for a few days, giving SW Ohio DXers their first shot at WMMS, which was very weak but got stronger Sunday evening with the Browns game (during the day i also briefly heard a station with the NASCAR race..not sure who). I noted it it Tuesday on the way to work. Since WEEC's digital sidebands were gone I pulled in WBNO, 100.9 in Bryan with Williams County mentions. WDHT 102.9 was off for a time but nothing new noted.
We also had two out of the three K-Love stations in the area out.

Just wondering what I might have been able to pick up with these stations out and a decent layer of trop? What have you heard with locals off the air?
 
Well, I looked it up, and the 100.7 you likely got was probably WCYO in Richmond, KY, which is the closest station on that frequency other than WEEC.

There is a very slight chance you may have gotten WITL from Lansing, Michigan, but it is probably WCYO.
 
WNOP (740-AM) in Northern Kentucky was off for a time. That enabled AM740 in Toronto, Canada to be received fairly clear for a couple of nights. For many years, WNOP was daytime only and the Canadian station boomed in here at night. Now, WNOP stays on after sundown although the signal from Canada can still be heard somewhat in the Cincinnati suburbs.
 
Was KTRH heard anywhere unusual during the storm? I evacuated to Fort Worth and never heard it, so I highly doubt they went to their daytime signal. Or, given that they're directional during the day as well, maybe they did.
