Alaska I'll be leaving Alaska soon...

Two left hands - and six fingers on the right.

Mmm hmmm...

;)

We will miss your DX reports from the Bush. Alaska is a unique location for any type of AM DX. Japan to Australia all morning on AM (when the solar activity is low), 2000-mile graveyard DX because there's nothing in AK on 1240, 1340, 1400 or 1490...unique openings into the lower 48 and Mexico that skip over the West Coast (like your Matamoros and San Antonio logs), and KFBK sounding like a local every night. Perhaps the fine folks in Sacramento should do Alaska weather reports in addition to Sacramento. "It's a cold -30 in Bethel, Alaska...63 in Sacramento"...

Without giving much away, will your new job be anywhere within Wyoming or the neighboring states, like your old job?

Where did Paul go? Laramie, WY!

Shawn Faxon's Wolf Creek Radio Broadcasting which owns AC/Variety Hits formatted "Hits 106" KLMI filed for got FCC approval to purchase 4 signals from the estate of Steve Silberberg, New Country 96.7 (KHAT 1210/K244FN), Vintage Vinyl 98.7 KRQU and IMix 104.5 KIMX.

I'm back in Laramie to do news, devoting more time to it than ever before while continuing to be on air at Hits 106 and assisting in other operational duties(aka whatever Shawn asks me to do, which is never unreasonable but he's BUSY!).

I get what local radio is about, love using technology to get it and I'm very familiar with the idiosyncracies of both the stations and the community we serve so I'm kinda just sliding right back into place where I was 5 1/2 yearsa go when I left KLMI to work for KSKO.

Without me telling them, a few people suspected I might be headed to Wyoming and 1 or 2 knew without any prodding from me and while I told some people direct, privately.. but alot of people had no idea.

For those that didn't know, you missed a big Easter in the Radioinsight.com article on the sale that was published way back in late November.

Yes, it is nice to be back in Laramie even though I never quite left. I've been voicetracking the Hits 106 afternoon show for 7 1/2 years regardless of where I lived.

The grocery store here isn't overwhelming exactly, but its a huge Safeway.. so lots of things I haven't had in 5 1/2 years at pries 25 to 75 percent less.

I already have a place to live, I have a new computer, a new cell phone (and a new number soon)

Only downside to that, Paul, is that the audience never knew you left so they can't welcome you back.

But I know from personal experience how great you must feel, being asked back by someone who has done so based on their own knowledge of your talent.

I'm very happy for you but sorry for the people you had to leave behind in McGrath.

Exactly.... Shawn knows im pretty flexible and kinda do whatever needs to reasonably be done... and even though hes younger than me (im 42) and hes the owner, im the bigger radio nerd.... so we can get into the nitty gritty of some of whats going to be happening over the next few months

WELCOME BACK to Wyoming, Paul!!! Can't wait for you to dabble back in some summertime FM DX soon! Hopefully you can get an antenna up fast w/ an SDR or TEF running unattended for meteor scatter in the meantime.
And I'm sure WY is cheaper for groceries than our taxed-to-death WA is. It amazes me how much I save on groceries in Montana vs. Washington. Or even Idaho, in some cases. Super 1 Foods locations in western MT often have good, local craft beer on sale for $7.98/6 pack. $11.98 is the "sale" price most of the time in WA.

I have 2 SAMCO FM159 5 element yagis on their way to me. Family Life Radio of Tuscon, AZ was clearing out their wearhouse and i got both antennas for $40 total plus $110 shipping.

My boss and i did discuss me putting the antennas up on the roof of the studio since i live in the basement apartment.... so my dxing will always be nearby

Now that's what I call a short commute. Good luck Paul. I found small town radio the most satisfying of my career.

Way to go Paul...gotta love having contacts in the industry. Maybe I should bribe local radio groups to hand me their old equipment 😁
I was hoping you would've ended up in ID or western MT, two of my favorite places...but being back in your old stomping grounds helps as well. Hits 106 has a big playlist, not the same ole' Michael Jackson, U2, Madonna, Whitney on repeat all day long.

In the meantime, once you get the antenna, point it west and look on 95.7, 91.1, 94.5, 104.1 and 107.3 for central WA targets on meteor scatter. I believe you picked up KATS from WY.

And in a few weeks, well have 3 more stations in the building and in a few months, be putting our own touches on them.

Congratulations! And I can tell you that I partially guessed correctly--I figured you'd be back in Wyoming. The part I missed? I thought that Wyoming Public Radio might have come calling...

Good luck on your return to Laramie!

Congratulations, Paul! Oddly enough I stopped at that Safeway when I was through there back in July. Not a bad store and I am sure it would be amazing coming from McGrath.
