Holy cow! I'm just a lousy listener. I was forced into retirerment about a year ago so I have time on my hands. Do any of you, who are far more knowledgeable than I, know of a web site that gives ratings by show? I've seen a couple that give the ratings by station. I think it would be interesting to see how Carr does against Severin e.g. or how they both do (or did in Carr's case) against Ordway.

Overall an amazing experience. Had one incident with Gonzer, when I didn't have a Zeppelin-live at the fillmore CD back in-studio by 10:30AM during "Zeptember." I'd looked ahead on the log, and he didn't need it until the 1PM hour, so with permission, I brought it into production and dropped it on tape for personal use. While returning the CD...gonzer sez "Hey!..what do you have?" I showed him. He responded with, "You are to have all materials returned to this studio when the morning show's over." I told him I was sorry, and he said, and this may be the funniest thing you'll ever read; "Removing a CD from the air studio, is tantamount to taking a scalpel from a doctor going into surgery!"
...I laughed heartily. Said, "Someone's got a pretty high opinion of what he's doing in here!"
He went ballistic. Ran into Shomby's office, which at the time was in the Hancock Tower, and a glass fishbowl office. I saw Gonzer re-telling the story...slight pause..Shomby busts into a grin. Then, points and I see him mouth the words; "Get Out!
The next day, there was a sign on the studio door: "Please refrain from any unnecessary visits to the air studio. The jock's show is a performance, and the studio their stage"
...Always remembered that moment.
I have a Gonzer story too, Neanderpaul.

I have had the odd chance to see the ratings daypart breakdowns from time to time (also including all the non-comm ratings which are not published to the general public), but haven't for well over a year now.
I've been an avid Boston area radio listener since 1966. My own radio history, mostly at non-comm and college stations, is on my show blog profile. (There wasn't any more text room for more detail).

Since so many others have responded to this thread...I might as well add my 2 cents as well?
I'm a 35 year radio professional who at one time was affiliated with stations in Providence (WJAR/WHJJ)...Massachusetts (WAAF/WCAP/WEEI) and several stations in Maine (including WGAN, WLOB, WPOR and WBQQ). I served as a production director for 4 stations...creative director for 3.
Made a minor career change in the mid-80s to perform live music at private parties, wedding receptions and at certain restaurants.
But I've never lost my interest in radio work. Unfortunately, many radio stations have lost interest in communicating to their listeners. It's easier to YELL at them with bad commercials and inexpensive syndicated programming! :

Welcome aboard Art, I have been a listener back to the days of Dale Dorman on RKO. I got into college radio around 01 to spin some tunes. Though the students can drive you crazy at times. I still try to do my little show each week or so. I post every now and then, usually when I'm trying to find out about stuff. There are some really knowledgeable people here.
seeing that there was plenty of gossip around WZLX at the time (my lips are sealed), it seems my personal life flew under the radar screen with Gonzer, though Suzy Sherman was spreading a rumor that I was involved with a DJ friend of hers from W ? ? ? (w question mark question mark question mark) (we weren't! Though he looks pretty good in his mid-40s now since he put his photo in my MySpace friends... hmmm hope springs eternal

Semi-normal like Oedipus and his trips to take "college courses" in Thailand? The learning capitol of the universe! HA Or his constant closeted position (oh, sorry, Oedi calls it "Bi' like a former general manager of the station tried to do)...yer joking, of course. Even Oedipus would be appalled at you calling him semi-normal. His whole shtick is (or at WBCN was...) to have purple hair, green hair, punk revoloutionary stances, while being a "businessman".
Oedipus on his best day was the least "normal" of anyone at WBCN.
There ya have it, new kid on the block, what really goes on in radio. Just be lucky YOU didn't intern at

p.s. Suzy's friend from her other station & I were and still are colleagues. I was actually shocked to hear the rumor mill had paired us up, but it just goes to show sometimes they have nothing better to do in radio.

I always liked Suzy Sherman... besides her producer duties for Harvey, she worked the board overnights Sat midnight into Sunday morning. No live DJ, just taped drop ins. But at that time she somehow convinced ZLX to let her do a new wave show of sorts that Ann Cody did the narration of. Ran midnight to 1 AM if I recall correctly..... we are talking 20 years ago. We compared notes a lot over the phone. She arranged it so I could come in and sit in on Harveys show for an hour one day back in the days when they were in the Hancock tower.
She got me concert tix once for an all star show of one sort or another.. we ended up sitting together. I remember Kim Wilson of the Fabulous THunderbirds was one of he performers, and i wan to say Dave Edmunds was there too... many brain cells ago. I remember as soon as the show got out she had to get over to Copley Sq to do her overnight shift.
Someone told me she moved to the west coast.

As long as we are introducing ourselves here will you allow a relocated New Yorker to play along with you guys? While I never worked the "New York Market" I did enjoy 10 years in surburban New York radio and as you said decided to get out and get a life. I am now living between Boston & Providence and enjoy listening to and talking about New England radio. So I hope you will let me mingle with you guys. And yes I am still a lifer when it comes to being a radio fan even though I am now out of the business.

I seem to remember a Rob Timm as being a nice guy, but not him. I shoulda kept quiet but it just points out
that there is a rumor mill at each station and that Jeff was not in "the loop".
I know stories from WCGY and WZLX about multiple jocks from both sexes, stories that would make heads spin but, oh, what was that Aunty Emm quote in THE WIZARD OF OZ:
