I'm Back On Live365!

It's been a long time but I've gone back to Live365. Right now I'm running basic mode with sideloads from Live365 but that's good for the reason that I can play some very hard to find single edits and mixes that sound so good. I have been practicing my DJ skills for 2 months as well, in preparation to run in live mode. That won't be possible though till Friday as I am moving today. When I run live the music will be processed with Breakaway Basic (probably using the "Easy Listening" preset as that is very open and clean). Best guess as to what hours I'll be live are Midnight till 3 a.m. Eastern time though I may do bonus shows when the mood strikes. I will archive shows and load them for play in basic mode as well as time goes on. The station is at: www.live365.com/stations/wkop1360

And it will sound good as I've purchased the Instant Radio station which has a ton of vintage music beds, jingles, news sounders and tons of other goodies. Between sideloads and my own music the library is now at about 3000 songs, approximately 85-90% of which are bona fide hits. I spent months weeding out stiffs and hits that that have not aged well.

Congrats and good luck. Just be yourself and you will be fine. I promise!

I was previously on Live365 more than a decade ago and was left with the feeling of an empty wallet. After more than eight years I decided going back to terrestrial radio made more sense for me.

I previously ran a deep-oldies format on Live365 all streamed live, complete with custom resung PAMS jingles and liners produced by Gary Cocker, Andy Neill and John Harper. A fully decked out studio with Arrakis audio console, Denon pro-line CD decks and Sony broadcast minidisc units fed an Orban Optimod processor along with a ModSci StereoMaxx for that extra fat standout stereo and more than 13,000 tracks ranging from 1955 thru 1989 - many being sourced from the lovingly restored original vinyl radio singles while others were carefully edited using the DJ edit as the template - now there's a time bandit for you!

Listener email as well as the Saturday Night request show was great since it allowed be to gauge listener response to certain tracks. Several hundred continuous daily listeners would be the prize for a well drained back account! It was fun, but it was expensive fun.

It's a fun diversion aside from the cost. As long as you keep it in prospective have fun with it. Best of luck with your re-launch!

I'd love to go back to Part 15 radio but I'm in New York state, where it's against the law. I do miss the days when I used
a boatload of tricks to get the range on a Wild Planet Radio DJ up to 300 feet (10 times the normal range!).

Part 15 is not illegal... Your just not going to get much distance unless you are "illegal" (ie. turning up the power, having a bigger antenna than legally allowed etc.)

As long as you observe the applicable regulations there's nothing illegal about operating a Part 15 radio station. Many people use it for yardcasting and, with densely populated area, you're bound to have a greater audience than yourself.

As far as I can tell, all unlicensed broadcasting is illegal by New York state law. If I'm wrong, that would be nice.

The only states that has local laws regarding unlicensed broadcasting is New Jersey and Florida. The laws for both states specify that unlicensed broadcasting is illegal unless allowed by FCC law. C.F.R. 47, Part 15 are the regulations which allow low power, legal, license-free radio broadcasting. - regardless of what local laws state.

Checked out your station. Sounds good! Did you consider submitting it through Tunein radio? I found a station that I liked (DC Rock) browsing Tunein and found out it was a live 365 station. Just thought I would mention this to help you get wider distribution. Not sure how Tunein adds stations, but they are good at it!

He would have to be a live365 pro licensed station and submit thru his live365 sales rep... Otherwise its not possible to "direct link" to a live365 station.

X5000 stations are listed on tunein as well. Are they considered professional broadcasters?

Not for nothing, I'm glad you made a return, but you should've went to DJC Media. The licensing and limited listings is the main reason(s) I left Live365.

I killed the station earlier today in favor of a return to actual radio via Part-15. Further details will be posted on the appropriate board, a podcast may be done at some time as well and details will be posted on the appropriate board as well if that comes to pass. I just can't handle a monthly fee and with what I've spent on various station upgrades (this radio thing can be a darned expensive hobby, Part 15 is my best option. So many board members have been so helpful through the years, it's really appreciated.
