I'm coming home!!!

Hey everybody I am kinda curious what the radio landscape looks like for small town radio in SC? I am coming back to SC for good at the end of March/early April. I know that the likes of CC and Cumulus are out of the question, but am curious about mom and pop operations. Just kinda curious from a guy who has been out of it for a long time, but has the blood flowing to maybe give it another ride!

I am just ready for warm weather and some good radio. Got a few other things lined up, but the ole radio blood is flowing unless I have a good net connection then there could be a net station down the road, but gotta get moved first... I just love small market radio because if it is done correct and you can connect with the community there is endless possibilities. CC1

Well,...(southern prefix)...I said well,...good! We do need some more Radio Gals in this market. All the good ones are currently not on the air: Dyana Daniels, Alice West, Gina Horton "The Big Red Machine".
We welcome you, but make sure that you've got a pair of high boots...it's deep here in the Upstate. Both Liz Ryles, and Stacie Bartrow would be great, if someone would've took the time to coach them. They both read at the speed of humming birds, and too Churpy to boot. The Happy Ass Syndrum gets old! Someone please keep the can drinks away from these women!

Though I'm especially in agreement with you regarding Dyana(we used to work at WCKN together in 85-86), I think it's only fair that I let you know that Carroll's a dude.

LOL Thanks Scott... I just saw Scooters post. I needed a good laugh. Actually Scooter I worked in radio till around 99-2000 unless you count me playing DJ babysitter a few months out of the year at Beloit College in WI and being part of an internet radio station project... I am sight impaired also, but never let that slow me down when I worked at WPUB radio in Camden SC. I remember listening to you back in the day at ROQ 2.0. Have a good one everybody...

Summers,...I owe you a beer! What a Hooot! Maybe Carroll & I will donn a couple-a goodwill dresses, and hit GSP as their first cross-dressin' Morning show. Do they make a pump in size 12? Fredev can be our intern, as soon as we order the ape suit.

C.C., If it's really still in your blood, you wheels may land on just the right runway. I wish you luck-- I too fantasize a comeback in smalltown Mom & Pop radio. I know how you feel.

It is still in my blood I just have a learning curve for how the broadcast industry has changed since I have been out of it. I know computers and just have to learn all the new bells and whistles. It is just one of those things no matter how it all changes I still believe in the business of mom and pop radio in which the likes of CC or Cumulus and the rest have not ruined yet. I still have a lot of "umph" in me and if I find the right place I would love to give it a run for the money...

Do you want to own a small station or work at one. If you want to own then there a lot to decide on what you want to do, do you want a small commerical station kinda like 94.3 in Columbia or do you want something even smaller like an LPFM, different rules but still radio. Also are you looking for a station in the city like Columbia or out in the country, there's a difference there too. Also there's internet broadcasting I guess it is a way of broadcasting but it just isn't the same as over the air broadcasting on radio (no offence meant to internet casters) but it's true. You can cover the world from just about anywhere with internet but that only works if people know your there on the net and where to find you which is the biggest problem for most internet broadcasters, one drop in a very big ocean. I figure your about over the air broadcasting and the way real radio feels.
