I'm completely sold on HD Radio.

Forget HDTV or DTV. This happens to be the next wave in radio history; Just bought myself a Jensen HD Radio over at Radio Shack-Complete with an I-Pod Charger. It was a good deal, but I think the stations that I like are The Loop-An Alternative AC Station over at 93.7, Then there's Smooth Jazz KODA 99.1, and finally, NewsRadio 101.1 KTRH-Which is an HD-2 Channel of Spanish Pop KLOL.

Which all brings me to this Question: When Clear Channel changes the ownership of KLOL & KHMX to CBS, What's gonna happen to CC-Owned KTRH being on KLOL's HD-2 Channel, And which CC station might pick it up? My Guess would probably be KODA-Which is starting to become a full-service station once and again.

I wont be putting HD Radio in my truck anytime soon, but I was looking at the Sony XDRF1HD HD Radio Tuner anyone have this one? I wish they could increase the power on it, I believe I should be able to get the signal with no problem but for some reason it doesnt work out very well. On my analog tuner I can get houston like a local with a dipole antenna. I'm thinking maybe that Sony may work better than my accurian HD Radio. I have one here at my home place near Austin. It works good most of the time.

I think most electronic stores out there are putting HD Radios out (Best Buy, For Example). It Could be by the
end of the year we'll be seeing those. I think it could in the next generation of home theatre systems out. I'm just here keeping up with The Joneses. . .

I have the Sony XDRF1HD and very happy with it. Especially with a separate AM and FM ant. contained. Works extremely well especially the quality received when I have picked up HD AM. For the price, and I paid $80 - it is well worth the money.

Hopefully, it won't end up on the defunct shelf next to my Sony SRF A-100 AM Stereo radio! (ha ha)

I happen to be one of those who believe that HD receivers will end up collecting dust on a shelf somewhere. After all, when I can take all the music I want with me on my MP3 player and listen to it through my car stereo; why would I want to invest in technology that will be defunct in the next three years, just to listen to the poor programming that's on the radio now. I've only found two stations that still do real radio. Neither one is in Houston, and neither one is doing HD.

Well apparently Houston Radio STILL sucks! There are too many Spanish stations out there here in H-Town. The only stations I listen here in Houston are 104, KODA, & KTRH. One day, there will be one less Spanish Radio station in Houston, but that's NOT gonna happen. . .

If HD Radio wasn't already dead before the economic downturn then it is now.
Even in the best of times HD radio was burdened with slow growth and zero revenue generation.
Now - people have less money for non-essentials. They aren't going to spend their few dollars for a radio that sometimes works.
There's less ad money slushing around than there's been in decades. Who is going to spend money advertising on HD where there are no listeners when they are trying to keep their businesses afloat?
There are fewer people working at radio stations. We've seen the casualty lists of lay-offs and more are coming.
The employees who were spared the ax are having to take up the slack.
So are we still going to assign tasks of keeping logs, traffic and voicing for HD?

The econmy and the clock has run out on HD radio.

If anyone hasn't noticed and might care, KTHT has turned their HD signal on again. No subchannels....and even though I am not anti-HD Radio...doesn't seem like much sense in buying the equip for KTHT. That station's demo and coverage area doesn't really seem like it would even remotely care about HD Radio. Then again, I went to New Orleans over the weekend and saw that KTDY in Lafayette is in HD. Really, Lafayette....(is ANYONE listening??)...

HD FM- Bless its pointed little head, could succeed.

HD AM is a deformed abomination, a poster child for what happens when technology is applied in a way that shows
the designers don't understand the medium they are attempting to mis-use.

If HD fails it will be because of the gangrene from HD AM. It was rotting even in the design stage,
and dead weight that wasted untold resources and money for ibiquity.

I liked the IDEA of HD radio, but the reality is pretty sad: Terrible signals on HD2, which is only original programming. My Boston Acoustics can't keep HD2 locked in, even with the external antenna on the second floor of my house. The BA radios were one of the earlier designs, I suppose, but still! I don't think an acre-long rhombic would do it. Okay, a Yagi, whatever. But even if a person could pick up those stations, the way radio is offing people there won't be much compelling to listen to. Even on the main HD channels.
