I'M FED UP WITH TV LAND...JUST END IT!

Get those movies off TV LAND! Movies and reality TV shows off the channel.

If I was the Program Director of TV LAND this is what I would air...

Andy Griffith
Mayberry RFD
All in the Family
Brady Bunch
Sanford and Son
Bonanza
Adam 12
Dragnet
Honeymooners
Alfred Hitchcock Presents
The Millionaire
Leave it to Beaver

Just to name a few.

And the demographics you'd attract would be WAY too old to be saleable. Hence the changes they've made!

I don't like the movies being on TV Land, but I'm more angry over the overkill of High School Reunion that has been going on. I hope this bombs in the long run. If this pays off for TV Land, they'll start doing this with every reality show they have.

Anything that pertains to Viacom (TV LAND, NICK AT NITE, CMT, SPIKE, MTV, VH1, etc.) is not worth much nowadays.

CMT has been reduced to showing Trading Spouses and Nanny 911. Who would have thought that to happen? To add insult to injury, CMT even makes fun of the country music that they support. So why not change the channel to MTV Country and get it over it.

I agree about TV Land about them showing movies that have basically nothing to do with classic TV but High School Reunion??? Extreme Home Makeover??? Just Shoot Me??? Scrubs??? They don't belong there at all. Just Shoot Me is on TBS and Scrubs is on WGN and local stations, so why is it on there.

Nick at Nite is worse!!! Home Improvement, George Lopez (which is on local stations too twice a day), and Fresh Prince is all they ever show now.

And an Off-Topic: STOP MESSING WITH ION!!! Put Baywatch on TV Land or Spike where ever it fits, but why oh why did they put it there??

Why do these air these shows? Quite simple...

The national syndication rights for these shows is cheap! And the money demo is 25-54 with an emphasis on 25-34. Those shows are classic TV for a 30-year old.

Baywatch is gone as of the end of March. It's going to Saturdays at 6PM, replacing 48 Hours. For the time being they're gonna be going back to the 2 hour Drew Carey Block.
[/quote]

Oh Goody ::) Just what we need is more Drew Carey. Why not put that on Nick at Nite or TV LAND or both? They would just love getting this and rerunning it to death as they do Home Improvement, George Lopez, and Fresh Prince.

Well Viacom MTV networks is involved, I have to agree, it's crapvision networks.
some old shows are on DVD in stores and online, or I can wait for the dvd release.Oh Baywatch ,yeah I've noticed it was in the Ion tv listings.I rather watch my video tape copies of old shows I've recorded a long time ago before TV went down the toilet with reality crap and night game shows and cable tv networks folowing the same route to the dump.DTV 15 to 20 years ago YES, It's worth it in a heartbeat,
now NO, Not with this crap programing, Annoying promo pop ups during the show. I'm sorry,Todays TV SUCKS............

More Radio listening time for me.

Maybe this is the time the "Retro Television Network" launch a cable channel to
compete with "TV Land", i've seen their schedule and viewers who have them are
getting shows that should be on "TV Land" or once was.
Maybe cable systems should consider a "On Demand" service where you can watch
selected classic television programs, the internet is working on this.

I thought that ION was going to be the answer to TV Land for those who don't have that station on basic cable in that they were going to air classic shows and they did at first by showing Green Acres, Amen, among a few others,
and showing The Partridge Family, Welcome Back Kotter, and The Monkees only once a week (wished that they had showed these shows 5 days a week instead of only on Fridays) Now ION has sunked to the lows of Nick at Nite and TV Land and going overboard with Drew Carey, and I said it before that Carey's show should be on Nick at Nite and TV Land where repetition runs rampant there and that they would just LOVE to acquire this show so that they can rerun it to death like they do Home Improvement, George Lopez, and Fresh Prince. And that's why I have not Nick at Nite in full for several years now because of their repetitiousness.

There's a new online option for some classic shows that launched recently at http://www.hulu.com/browse/alphabetical/tv .

It seems like there are other options, but they all have shortcomings. Stations like ME-TV are only in larger cities. ALN and ION only have classic TV at night and have either talk shows or infomercials at other times, and like Braves2005 said, ION is getting as bad as Nick at Nite and TV Land in repetition and only running shows for a short time. RTN has the best lineup, but they also run infomercials in late night and are only on local stations, sometimes only as a digital subchannel.

I definitely hope that if TV Land continues to alienate its viewers that some network will come along to take its place.

I gave up on watching Nick at Nite years ago when they started rerunning virtually the same episodes of Full House and Roseanne over and over again like they are doing right now with Home Improvement, George Lopez, and Fresh Prince. Guess Nick at Nite really doesn't know that all 3 shows air already in syndication with Home Improvement and Fresh Prince already being rerun abused to death in syndication anyways and George Lopez already headed that way. Who would want to see virtually the same cycle of episodes being rerun almost every month from any channel not just Nick at Nite or TV Land?

I am willing to bet when Nick at Nite starts airing Family Matters in June, they'll run it into the ground like they do with the rest of their shows.

TVLand is now doing the on-the-screen during the whole show advertisements like the other networks have been doing recently. Annoys you even when you want to watch the few classic shows they have left.

Two points to make....

#1. I agree with the person regarding the annoyance of the cable and broadcast
networks putting their advertising on the screen while you are watching a
show(whose idea was this?)

#2. Tim McGraw & Nelly recorded a song a few years ago called "Over and Over",
maybe this should be the theme to "Nick at Nite" and any other cable network
that runs shows into the ground!

True but I still don't get why the emphasis on 25 to 34 year olds. How many of those in that age bracket make at least 100,000 ( or even 80,000 an year ) own their own home outright, little debt, etc...? One would think those in the 40s and 50s have more money.

A few years back at the radio station I worked our sales staff went to a meeting and the person they saw said that in order to survive radio and TV MUST cater to that 27 year old and leave the 47 year old behind. Ideas he suggested..

Use soft foul language in our ads like "hell" or "damn". He predicted the "F" word would be used in ads and in regular use on radio and TV within 5 years because "..that is what 20 somethings want to hear".

Rather than talk about community happenings, we should spice things up with sex talk, jokes about oral sex for example.
And he said it was big mistake to ban cigarette ads from TV because they could make a killing today since the only demographic that is increasing in smoling is the 20 somethings. Guess that explains why so many different types of Marlboros and Camels that are available today.

My favorite.."todays audience you need to reach ( the 20 somethings ) are into the TV show Friends. They want to be just like the stars on the show. OK...but what about Lisa Kudrow who played on that show? This is what she said about TV back when Friends was big "....just because I make my living from the boob tube doesn't mean I watch the god-damned thing..I dont even own a set !!". If all 20 somethings share the same opinion on TV as her...why bother with TV?

Dont know whatever became of this dude but I would not be surprised if he works at Viacom. If he does, I hate to see what their networks or even TV in general will be like say in 5 to 10 years.

Blame TNT and TBS for opening Pandora's box of tv annoyance back in the summer of '02.

On ALN in some cases, some classic shows that could be seen everyday, such as Mary Tyler Moore and Newhart, are seen only once a week. And, likely in consequence, this has led to only the first two seasons being shown, before they start the run over.

According to Wikipedia (take with grain of salt), RTN in some cities have regular programming 24/7.

ION is NOT a classic tv network. they just happen to have a lot of classic shows. ION should really expand their hours though. They could have a good mix of old shows, shows like Drew Carey and their own stuff like The RHI Movie Weekend and Bodogfight if they still have that. Maybe even start up making their own shows again.

Yeah, and you have every single cable channel catering to the same age group. Such a brilliant theory to give up being the one marketer of programming for an underserved group so that you can be one of 100 channels going after supposedly younger audiences. Audiences that are also the least likely to spend a lot of time watching old-fashioned TV. A group who has more distractions than any before it.

By the way, this "ageism" against classic shows is not even accurate because, of those here who complain about the changes to TV Land, I'd bet most of us are under 45 years of age. Like most ignorant stereotypes, it's based on assumption rather than fact.

As for TV Land, it's almost a total loss at this point. What a shame...
