I'm Gonna Miss Boortz

I don't think anyone on this board has agreed with Neal's political views all the time, but you gotta admit, he's quick with the legal rationale and the sarcasm (re: outbreak of bedbugs in Charlotte during the DNC: "So you have parasites eating parasites." :D). He also really doesn't have anything to lose... makes it fun.

I don't know if I will get used to Herman Cain. He could really educate the listeners from a black conservative point of view, but right now he just sounds like another blowtorch for the Republican Party. It looks like WSB will really be depending on Cain a lot to replace an audience that will be lost when Boortz leaves.

What do you think? What does Cain have to offer that will be unique to, and different from, the conservative talk radio menu? And how will this affect Wisbee?

I don't agree with about 80 percent about what his political views are, but Neil is an excellent talker. He can keep you tuned in for hours. He can make stimulating conversation on ANYTHING. He could do a whole show on how to roll toilet paper and it would be just as entertaining as debating health care or when he goes on his Obama bashing tirades.

I will miss him. Quite frankly he is not one who can be easily replaced.

Herman Cain is about as stimulating as watching paint dry. I don't think he, nor anyone really, can fill Boortz shoes.

Boortz is capable of critical thought unlike most other "conservative" talk show hosts.
He is an "individualist" versus "collectivist." He believes that he/we is/are the totality of the choices he/we has/have made. And he believes you should be free to do what makes you happy as long as you do not infringe on the rights, or property of others.
There are no other radio personalities, talk or otherwise, espousing these ideas. Add to that he is a skilled conversationalist.....these are the reasons he is so hard to replace.
Bill Bennett is one of the few talk show hosts with enough intellectual umph to replace someone like Neil. But even Bennett tows the Christian/Republican line and carefully dances around issues he knows will upset his audience of bleating sheep. Boortz rarely misses the opportunity to poke Christians, Muslims, and all other people who are unable to think critically with a stick.
Hosea "Hosey" Williams used to say in his campaign ads that he was "un-bought and un-bossed." That's what you might say about Boortz, too. Un-bought and un-bossed.

I said it before, this is the most articulate opinion of Boortz I have ever read. Very well done. I don't think it could have been said any better.

The GRHOF site has a great aircheck of Boortz from back in his Ring Radio (WRNG, now 680 The Fan for you kids out there) days. The content of talk radio was quite different back then and Boortz changed with the times. Also includes Ring's signoff from the days when 680 was a daytimer.

Is this true? Because I remember him being the most entertaining candidate when he was running and it all became super boring pretty quickly once he dropped out of the race.

Cain sounds like a preacher when he is on the radio. He does have a much more entertaining personality when he is on television.

Boortz leans Libertarian in most areas except foreign policy. Cain is straight up Republican.

Boortz is most entertaining when he starts of the evangelical Christians. Remember, most people that tune in to the Boortz show are conservative minded people. Most are probably even Republican and not Libertarian. He has the Republicans reeled in most of the time with his anti-Obama rants but occasionally, he has SOME of the Republicans spitting mad when he starts his Pro-Choice/Anti-Choice debate (he is pro-choice) and his support for the Gay community. By far though, it's his rants on Christianity and Government that really has me about to drive off the road because I know most of the people listening probably DON'T agree with him and are highly offended.

Hey! I'm an evangelical Christian. But I'm not one of THOSE evangelicals, and I mostly agree with him on those issues.

;D ;D ;D 8)

BTW: The proper term is "turbo".

As the Kimmer would have said, all in "big friendly letters"...

IMHO Herman Cain is a "bridge". WSB will use him to to make us "forget" Boortz. After a year or so Herman will run for office and then either Mark A. or Adam G. (or somebody else) will come in and "revive" the slot. Kind of like 94.1 did after Gary Mckee left did with Murphy.

Boortz has always marched to his own drummer. I remember in the 90s when someone called in about "the gays" in Cobb County. This was during the time when the Cobb County Commission decided that the gay lifestyle did not belong in Cobb County, which is why the 1996 Olympic Torch went around Cobb. Anyway, someone called in to Boortz and said something to the effect that he did not want gay people in his neighborhood and their acts should be outlawed.

Boortz's answer was classic Bootz: I don't care if my neighbors are having sex with monkeys, as long as the monkeys consent and the blinds are closed, it's okay with me.

I have used that quote many times when friends have talked about Boortz being in the same ilk as Rush and Sean.

I used to listen to Boortz on WRNG which was my favorite station at the time. I LOVED the summertime broadcast of CBS Radio Mystery Theatre. WRNG was a daytimer back then. When sign off was 7:00 PM or later they would broadcast the CBS Radio Mystery Theatre for the last hour of the broadcast day.

I fail the seen the comparison of 680 The Fan & 750/95.5 WSB. 680 is Sports/Talk and WSB is News/Talk. Let's compare apples to apples. This is like comparing WGUN to WKHX!

You're right! It should say something like, "Less Steak, More Give and Take."
