I'm noticing a disturbing trend here..

Anyone know why more and more radio stations (in this area) are laying off their morning DJ's for John Tesh? I just tuned to soft rock 94.1 and heard him as they replaced their local morning show (It was local as far as I know it)

Having this type of show is disturbing because it's bad for our economy. Crap Channel I hope replaced whoever was on WMEZ-FM for other shifts but I have a feeling whoever was on prior to his popping in were probably fired.

I'm a guy who likes local talent. At first I thought John Boy & Billy "the BIG SHOW" was based out of here but I know now there based out of..Atlanta?? Another show is Rick & Bubba

I think the only station and I applaud them for keeping it manual, no automation, is 104.7 WAAZ.

I hope you all will agree with me on this subject. I just wanted to bring this up to the boards.

Automation is cheaper than live locals- with advertising dollars down- it's the cheaper way out. It sucks but what are you going to do ..... start a pirate station, that's what! Argh!

Greg

Rob....what you call "Crap Channel" (I assume you mean Clear Channel) doesn't own WMEZ/94.1

John Boy and Billy are out of Charlotte......and Rick and Bubba are out of Birmingham....I would think a professional like you would have known that John Boy and Billy weren't local.....and that you thought Rob and Sherry we local too.....Tibbs and I are really disappointed in you....we thought you were on top of things better than that.....better check that Strobey...it ain't flashing right.

My two cents is this, if said radio station can sell a syndicated morning program better than a local based one, then more power to them.

Who are we to complain against that?   I for one have no interest in doing it.  Most radio stations are in it for the bottom line anyway.  If they can make money off a particular program and/or format, then good for them.

I've grown to respect Radio over the past few years, thanks to everyone who have taught me a thing or two about it.

Let the professionals run their ship as they see fit.

If I don't like what's on a certain station, there's the seek and scan buttons on my radio(s).  All I have to do is press them and find something else.  If I can't find something else, then I'll crack open my CD collection and play till my hearts content.

Just one man's opinion on the subject at hand.

Charlie -

I needed that laugh about robs strobey...hehe.

We lost one of the original models here in Nashville today (well Wed) - Coyote McCloud. You may have met him back when Pirate Radio (WTBB?) was going --- Marc Chase, Mark Pirtle and McCloud bought it. I think that was another time you warned me to run --- it was after the lightning struck the tower and burned one of the (co-ax?) lines and they were running at like 3kw near Ebro maybe (Bonifay near there?)...and then their GM started reselling the station equipment...they still wanted/needed like $500k. Anyway, I was kinda thinking rob needs to come to Nashville and work as a writer for the Tennestupid, I mean Tennessean, the once great newspaper, run into the swamp by Gannett. They can't seem to get any facts or call letters right in their articles either...he'd be right at home. Rob - what do they smoke in Navarre. My friend Nock is actually at Navarre now (he posts on here a bit) and wanted to meet you. He has an aluminum foil collection, as well. But, no strobeys. Write me on here and maybe you can meet and say hello. Funny, had a meeting this AM and the guy mentioned Cpt. A's and that the owner has a 1,000 acre farm with crystal clear springs he's been to and they source water there. I wish it was a gin farm about now....small world. Think we spent more time talking about Mrs. Newby's Liquors....that's still there??? Missin the beach right now, but I have to admit I have never been or seen Navarre...rob, got any pix???

No - never been there recently but would like to go up before it's too hot. I'll try to get some pictures. We got some morning skip - Oldies out of Corpus Christi, TX 93.9 full strength (no RDS)

-Rob

Hey, Tibbs--here's a little taste of Navarre (well, Navarre Beach, actually):

www.juanaspagodas.com.

Nice spring day at Juana's... a gin & tonic in hand and one in the on-deck circle... some Jimmy Buffet playing in the background... a few honeys half your age hanging around, just for scenery...

There are worse spots on earth than Navarre Beach, Florida.

Tibbs....yes I got to meet Coyote one time out at "Pirate Radio" around 92 or 93....can't remember. He was a unique person....

I'm really enjoying the fact I can hear PFM and V100 most of the time. for some reason.. 95.1 doesn't want to come in. I believe that might be QRM from WKSJ's iboc stream. I'm amazed at what good equipment brings you for DX. and this isn't even that expensive. I'm not a normal radio listener but when skip is up, I fire it up.

For some reason during skip I can't hear 96.1-2 probably due to the fact I'm in the fringe area of their HD signal.

"the all new hot 107.9" sounds kinda boring. Bring back the great 108..

Well then why do we have these forums if we don't critique (vent) on what we hear on the radio.
Sure 99% of the time companies will just ignore what we say hear. But who knows.

Tibbs....hold down the fort/board....I will be at NAB in Vegas starting Sat and returning Thursday....keep you eye on all the strobies.

cceng

Hell CCENG, there you go again...and I am lost, I can't tell if the dang strobeys are even in Navarre anymore after robs post.

I like John Boy and Billy. They're not based in Atlanta... in fact, they have no affiliate station in the ATL market after they failed there back in the 1990's.

I read that Lex and Terry have "burned their bridge" with Clear Channel... makes me wonder if TK101 might bring back the Flamingos when their contract runs out? The same would apply to X1015 in Tally, but I don't remember who L&T replaced there. What syndicated morning show is CC putting on their Active Rockers down south now-a-days? ManCow?

If you want local, there's always "The Morning Movement" on 99 Rock.

The whole idea of these forms is to talk to people in the radio business.

My - oldies on 94.3 FM. This sounds like it could be boringham or new orleans. Here's a format I miss..

Tibbs....back from Vegas....ate sushi at NOKU (amazing) and at Smith and Wolensky's Steak House....they had Pilsner Urquell on tap (that is a BIG deal for me or any other serious beer drinker)....I hope the stobies are all ok.

The ones I see are fine, (Ha Ha!) :D  expect for the silent WTQX 1570 AM one.  This tower hasn't had any work done to it, since the late 90s.

Wish I could come back to Fort Walton Beach.  Enjoyed my visit, back in the early 90s and liked what I saw.  Man I loved that seafood gumbo they sold at the Jamaica Joes Restaurant.

PCB was a cool place too.  Man I wish I could back and visit it again.  Had some great times there too.

Even enjoyed my visits to the Gulf Shores area too. It was a nice place to check out.

Oh well, may as well stay put and keep on doing those jobs that I'm currently involved with. (Writing, Cutting Grass, Doing Maintenance Work at my home Church, Working on making my return to Radio Broadcasting  and Helping Those In Need)

R.D.P. <><

P.S. If the return does happen and I can get something going, I might let our friend Mr. Rob from FWB help me keep my strobies in operation. (Ha Ha!)  :D

Anyone care to remind me about the strobie story? I first mention I remember involved the WWAV 102.1 tower... sinking into the great SanDestin Swamp.
