I'm relocating soon...

Hi, all-

I met a wonderfully sweet, nice lady in the area, and I'm going to be moving in with her very soon. I'm looking for a station or 3 that can use my help. I've been in broadcasting since '01; before that I was employed in the "real world". I've unfortunately been stuck as a board operator for a large portion of my radio career, but I do have some on-air experience, and I also have maintenance/repair expertise, too.

I thought that putting the word out on here was better than e-mailing 56 stations-can anyone help a guy out? Thanks!

Congratulations on getting married. Hope the job works out for you.

Thank you! We're probably not going to get married anytime soon, but thanks anyway! I'm currently in the Lorain/Elyria area, which is west of Cleveland. I thought that putting a post up would be better than sending out 50 e-mails! I know how PDs inboxes get-I hear all about it from the sister station's PD...

So, if anybody has any info, it will be greatly appreciated!

"Dancin' Danny" Parrack
Board operator/Producer
AM 930 WEOL Elyria/Lorain

You don't mention any particular format that you can do well. Are your talents so awesome that you will WOW any potential PD? How's your demo? Will it rise to the top of pile of demos no one ever listens to?

From what I've seen locally, there are many more firings than hiring. Whatever job you get locally won't pay much... The best you could possibly do is a part-time board-op job, paying less than $10 an hour-probably a lot less.

Keep in mind that Albany has a broadcasting "school" www.nsrt.org. They churn out plenty of "talent" with little hope of a life-sustaining job.

I hope your new girlfriend won't mind paying your bills.

After about 25 years in radio, I feel qualified to offer this advice; do it part time for fun, but get a real job. Maybe something will come of the part-time gig. That's not very likely unless you are something special.
Your girlfriend will throw your lazy-ass out if you can't pull your weight.

WOW!! Nothing like bestowing someone with confidence whose just out to better themselves. I guess he won't be coming to Albany anytime soon either :-\

He can come to Albany, but shouldn't expect a radio job miracle.
The truth is the truth. Why BS the guy.

PS Danny, you might want to google yourself and see what comes up. I did. So will other prospective employers.

Good Luck to you

Thank you, Mr. "Orator". I like the area. And, contrary to YOUR belief, I don't "expect miracles". I give 110% to everything I do, no matter how mundane or trivial the task may seem to others. The only person who can bestow "miracles", is Christ-and He left us over 2000 years ago...

Hey Danny I'm an Elyria Lorain Broadcasting alum, worked on B 107 when it was CHR in the early/mid 80's. Good luck!

That's nice. I hate to tell you, that is the feeling of many in radio. Problem is, there's always someone younger who will do the 110% for less money.

I hafta tell ya, as much as I didn't want to admit that "Orator" is right... these are the main reasons I never persued radio again, after I seeing the exit door those many years ago!

I HATE moving, and like to stay PUT once I get comfy. And, although I'm FAR from being financially set, I didn't like the thought of a Piggly Wiggly shelf-stocker making a better salary than me! (no offense to Piggly employees)

And, I didn't like the smell of all the satellite programming coming down from space, forcing me off the air at Ma & Pa's little hometown station.

So, here I sit. Often wishing I could... cause I miss it... but knowing it's probably NOT out there!! :'(

Well, "Orator", and "RBW", the thing that ANY of us can do, is just to do the best we can. I've had my time of griping and whining, but-where did it actually GET me? Nowhere. And, I most certainly won't let this business get me down, or turn me into a unrepentant cynic like YOU, "Orator". Life is entirely TOO short to become that way. Oh-and to answer your earlier questions, I'm good in the Adult Contemporary, Classic rock, AAA, and Smooth Jazz formats. If you go to www.weol.com, and listen to an archived High school football, basketball, or baseball/softball game, you can hear my production capabilities. Those speak for themselves...

I definitely look forward to living in the Hudson Valley very soon.

I can see that your attitude has taken you very far indeed. Good luck with your job search. This " unrepentant cynic" (whatever that is) is happy to let you know there''s a fine Christian station http://www.1540wdcd.com/ in Albany.

Thank you for the "heads up", Orator! I'm not a practicing Christian, however. I'd love to explain just exactly what a "unrepentant cynic" is, but I'm not going to waste my nor anyone else's time-I believe those on this particular discussion board know you well.

And no-I'm not starting at 1300 next week. At least not that I know of...
