Hi all,

Question for your pros out there. What is "Imaging duties" in reference to a job in radio? For example: An all access quote like, "Joe Smith takes on night jock and imaging duties..."

What is the imaging mean?

thanks
dave

Long story short:

All the stuff between songs that isn't live.

Par example:

SWOOSH New York's Number One *zap* Hit m-m-m-usic station...Z-ONE-HUNDRED.

Imaging duties include the creation of jingles, promos and music mixes for a radio station. It helps to define the radio station's brand and let listeners know what to expect every time they tune in.

Some good examples have been provided already. Here's a music mix example for you:

"Kiss 100... The Kiss M-M-Mix" three short dance music clips with *WHOOSHES* and *STATIC* in between each "Kiss 100... The station for a fun, young London!" *BANG*
______________

Looks like FMFreq is up late with too many Mountain Dews again,
he forgot his own imaging technique.

In the states MOST creative/imaging people DO NOT make jingles. Those come from jingle companies. A few...very few, talented people who have music backgrounds produce jingles. Dave Kampel just started a jingle company.

Imaging also involves writing. Writing is key to everything. Just like with a movie. It all starts with the script.

And anyone can throw sound effects between words and stutter some words. That's terrible imaging. On top of that everyone does it. Let the writing shine thru. Often effects are minimal.
______________

Simple answer is that if you don't know what "imaging duties" means, you're not qualified to do it.

It's not gentlemanly to be so mean Robojock..It's a good question. In Europe, and other places "jingles" are a generic term for sweepers, liners etc...I have a lot of requests for jingles on stations..and it took awhile, but I was shooting myself by telling people I didn't do them..oops.

Imaging is the art of creating signature "audio cosmetics" for a particular station...hence it enhances thier "image" Imaging sets the "sound" and "motion" of a station..Good imaging sells the product and keeps the station sounding consistant..and..if updated frequently..sounding "fresh" It is the produced (and sometimes dry) buzz words that a station uses, and many times listener clips, drops, and ear-catching effects that make the listener remember the station that they are listening to..Think of it as a renforcemnt and statement of the programming style of the station.

Hey Jeff,Hard telling these days, but i think it means voicing promos, sweepers, general production, producing.
