Imaging voices

What do you think of the imaging voices on WBAP, KRLD, KLUV ... the all-sports, A/C and CHR stations, etc.?

Opinion, but KRLD's is terrible. The guy reminds me of someone doing 20/20 news in the early 1970's ... the fake Drake sound.

Out of curiosity, who is the voice of KLAK 97.5?

Lonnie Perkins does WBAP. He's based in Louisville and great to work with and for awhile had a pretty good stranglehold on imaging VO for news-talk stations around the country. I assume Charlie Van Dyke is still doing K-LUV, hard to knock that. They call the guy doing the Ticket currently "Conrad." and his imitation of Doc Morgan is laughable at best. John Wells is doing KZPS. I have no clue on anyone else though I've had the pleasure of recording and producing almost every major voice talent this market has produced over the last 30 years or so, male and female.

I think the guy on KRLD is great. Anyone got a name?

I agree about KRLD. Only to me he sounds like Ted Baxter.

Except Ted ... is dead. :(

Rick Party, the new voice of The Beat is excellent. Pat Garrett was alright, but let The Wolf have him.

Won't be long before technological impersonation of voice prints will be proficient.

Yes, Mr. Fred Overthetop.

Too loud, irritating, announcer-like, unfriendly sounding, not contemporary ... at all.

He sounds like he is channeling Gary Owens whose style was a parody.

So this guy is a parody of a parody.

Who is the guy on ClearChannel stations that sounds like Guy Smiley had a illegitimate son with a crack whore? :)

What happened to Barry Corbin who was the voice of the Wolf? He did a good job of imaging that station.

He's still on there.

I remember Doc Morgan did a voice-over on a Monday night TV sports show about 10 years ago that Lee Marvin (???) produced on Channel 33 or so. They would bring in some former Dallas Cowboys players, Randy Galloway would show up every now and then, along with other beat writers.

They had a good show, but I'm sure ratings weren't great or the show would still be on the air.

They also had a "house band" I believe. Doc was the "semi-host" of it, if I recall.

I like the girl who does the JACK FM events. She has a devil-may-care attitude and I like that.

Do anybody remember when Bumper Morgan,(current Soul 73 voice), used to voice K104. He made that station sound good. Mitch Faulkner did an excellent job on K104 back in the early 90's also.

KRLD's imaging voice is Dana Hersey....

Called "The Perfect Broadcast Voice" by the Boston Globe....Lead imaging voice of the Boston Red Sox Baseball Network....Bloomberg Financial Network....American Movie Classics....WBBR New York....WJR Detroit....WRKO Boston....KRLD Dallas....KTRS St. Louis....WTAE Pittsburg....WJZ Baltimore....WTIC Hartford....

....and not good enough for the Dallas Radio-Info Board.

Heaven Forbid there be a voice on American Radio that actually sounds like it belongs there.

"To each his own" as the song lyrics go.

His over-the-top presentation leaves me cold.

He sounds older, so his voice fits the demographics of the station I guess.

When did The Boston Globe, a fine newspaper, become the arbiter on excellence in broadcasting?

Simply, his sort of bombastic style on KRLD is not my cup of tea.

Why do you capitalize the "r" in American Radio but not the "t" in The Boston Globe? Just curious.

The image guy on KRLD reminds me of those "Time Marches on" newsreeels of the 30's and forties. H would make a great Comissioner Gordon on the OLD Batman TVseries.
