Impending Implosions

Gee wiz things are boring and bland and dry on the boards lately. It must me a sign of the cash crunches. Stations/groups must've had to cut their internet provider trades to be based on a per second rate.

So let us have a quick financial survey of the radio world (there are exceptions to all of these, CMAing): profits are basically nonexistent, more credit is basically nonexistent, selling multiples are measured fractionally rather than by the tens, the property values for buildings are diving, promotions are less than laughable, what used to be the most pathetic on air talent is now considered top of the head, passive investors have become industry ATM's that are broken, equipment is failing with no hope of repair, more stations are going dark than bulbs on the towers, the economy is contracting and on and on the spiral spins.

It's going to be hum-buggy at CC and Crummy and all the medium and minor groups this Holiday season. What do you folks think, come mid-February to April Fools shouldn't we be able to pick up properties at a rate of about 30% of stick value? ???

Personal confession; thought I'd love to see the day when I could shout 'Told you it would happen' but alas, I only feel sad when I think of all the good people that have been hurt. I'm really looking forward to Spring.

Stewy --- in a real world scenerio (not the contrived bs radio world created by today's radio morons)--- 30% of stick value is still 200% above reality...but what do I know??

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Semi-Reasonable cost of a 50kw-100kw stick in PCB-FWB-Destin --- $800,000 to $1 M.

Mounting losses of same said properties in 2008 --- $200,000 to $400,000

Cost of Clear Channel PC Properties --- $770 billion

One good CC PC engineer --- priceless.

For everything else, there's strobey's and Tropos

As the proud wife of that engineer, thank you :D

Don't get used to it Jenny Woo. I am tired of kissing up to him on this board...

Things are changing in 2009/ CW's goin' down! ;D ;D ;D

The pending "implosions" are not isolated to any one station, market or company. I believe virtually all stations and large broadcast companies will implode upon themselves as a result of extremely high debt, over leveraged acquisitions over the years, and the overal affect of the current economy. Those that will most likely survive are those operators with NO debt, e.g., their station(s) have long since been paid off. It's sad, but true. I believe we will see many stations go dark over the course of the next 24-months, if not sooner.

Mr. Tillery, I agree with your assessment of darkening signals but disagree with the sadness there of. It will be difficult for those poor souls still hanging in there when they go dark but the blood letting is needed to get the pretend broadcasters out and allow the pros back in under conditions and parameters conducive to good radio business and good community service.

And now for my monthly groveling ......ALL HAIL CCENG......ALL HAIL PREEM PALVOR.........THE GREATEST OF THE TRANSMITTER WIZARDS! (and all the other good ones who've been kicked off by the mods, we're gonna need them and probably work them close to death in turning back on the darkness later).

Now back to our regularly scheduled programming....

Rumor has it Renda fired their promotions people. And the sales people are covering, by driving the vans to remotes and events. And they no longer stream their stations. It must have cost them a pretty penny.
