"Important Announcement" For Pulse 87 - Upcoming

The New York Examiner reports that Pulse87NY.com PD Joel Salkowitz has said that "an important announcement" will be made later this month that "should take them to the next level":

Oh, and the article's author, Jerry Barmash, appears to have taken a potshot at dance music, labeling it "a fringe format that appeals to club crazies". Ouch.

Discuss!

Actually, to clarify, the terms "fringe format" and "club crazies" were direct quotes by Salkowitz. I thought it was clear by the wording.

Thanks for the clarification, and I see that the aforementioned terms are now in quotes in the article, as well.

What do they know about club crazies ? Go to bed and when is the last time you went to a club? EXACTLY. All people want to feel upbeat and happy. Thats what it is.

"Club Crazy" music is not what Pulse played. The programming and music there was done to a science. A perfect recipe for ANY new yorker that has hearing and a pulse.

I wonder if trance and techno qualify as club crazy music?

Calling the music "techno" is crazy enough! :D

Though, as stupid as this may sound, I finally figured out WHY the term "techno" stays stuck in the mind of the media. And it's not just because the music is electronic so "techno" sounds like a cool name to use either.

1) Where was techno created? Detroit (Juan Atkins, Kevin Saunderson and Derrick May...the "Belleville Three".)
2) What is the main industry in Detroit? Automobiles
3) What is another large industry in Detroit? Advertising (for the automobile industry)

So in the mindset of those advertisers, based out of Detroit, dance music will always be "techno" and that just STUCK.
