Imported shows from other speak English nations

BBC America ran one censored season of the GREAT Canadian show Trailer Park Boys many years ago. I've been waiting for HBO or Showtime to pick up this series for years (salty subject matters and language). I can't believe no one picked it up in the US unless they are selling a ton of DVDs here.

I watch "As Time Goes By" and "Keeping Up Appearences" from the BBC on PBS alot of belly laughes.as I remember back in the 90's there was a couple of Canadian produced syndicated cop shows on here on american tv.the names slipped my mind ,but ,they were great.

I only know of one, but it was not syndicated; it aired on CBS. It was titled Top Cops.

The other may have been "Due South", which was a scripted comedy about a Mountie who becomes a cop in the US. Eventually it went to syndication. "Top Cops" had re-enactments like "Rescue 911".

I've watched "Are You Beng Served" and its spinoff set in a hotel, as well as "Keeping Up Appearances". I saw a few episodes of "Last of the Summer Wine" which had Captain Peacock. When they went back to the old episodes, it wasn't nearly as enjoyable.

Back in the 80s MTV ran "The Young Ones" commercial free. :D

MTV also shown "Monty Python", uncut and commercial free as well, in tandem with "The Young Ones".

I recall MTV showing another British comedy series that followed Python on Sunday nights -- "The Comic Strip Presents...", which is generally a parody comedy series along the lines of Monty Python. As with the others, this, too, was seen unedited without commercials.
I saw several seasons of "Monty Python" on PBS and then the station dropped it. Some jokes I enjoyed, some I didn't.

Also "Fawlty Towers". Brilliant.

Some of the shows make it over here, like "The Office," they just get Americanized for our viewing pleasure.

That's exactly right! Just a few examples include:

"Till Death Us Do Part" became CBS's "All in the Family"

"Steptoe & Son" became NBC's "Sanford & Son"

"Man About the House" became ABC's "Three's Company"

"Are You Being Served" became the short-lived CBS comedy "Beane's of Boston".

I'm sure there are plenty of other examples......these are only the ones that come to mind at the moment.
"Fawlty Towers" became "Payne". I remember critics bashing it but I thought it was great. John Larroquette has long been one of my favorite actors. Then I saw the original. No, Mo certainly didn't compare with Manuel.

Wikipedia is your friend. Turns out I'm watching the actress who was the American Polly character on "No Ordinary Family".

It is odd that virtually the entire schedule of U.S. English language TV networks, even cable networks, is made up only of U.S. produced programs, except for PBS and BBC America. I also think it's odd that Canadians have access to almost all the U.S. networks and cable channels, yet the CBC got nowhere with the idea of starting a cable channel in the U.S.(similar to BBC America) that was going to run Canadian-produced TV shows for American audiences. The thought was to launch the station on Channel 9 Windsor, next to Detroit, and allow U.S. cable systems to run the signal across America. The plan never got off the ground.

"Smallville" and "Life Unexpected" are filmed in Canada for The CW.

It was also a 1983 ABC sitcom, "Amanda's", which starred Bea Arthur in John Cleese's role.

IFC is currently showing Monty Python, but that isn't in the current cable package I'm getting.

Something odd I've noticed is that BBC America has started showing Star Trek: The Next Generation. It's one of my favorite shows, but it doesn't make much sense to me why it's there. The only logical reason I can figure out is possibly because of Patrick Stewart being the main star. But then this is another channel that isn't in my current cable package.

I thought the same exact thing...even in the promos, they completely emphasize Stewart's starring role above all else.

Actually, DirecTV's 101 Network is currently running Trailer Park Boys, and have been since the summer.

CBC show "Being Erica" is one that I enjoy. It's on Soapnet on a delayed basis but there are other ways to the see the show. It's a Dramady that really makes you think about the choices we all make.
