Impressions of "929 The Game"

Just wondering if anyone has listened enough to "The Game" to make an opinion.... Better than the "The Fan".... and does the new format and presentation justify blowing out DAVE ?

It is basically black sports talk. I wanted Dave to go away and bring back Z-93, this is a waste of a signal and I hope it fails miserably, which it will.

I've listened quite a bit. In my opinion their biggest problem is that their best shows aren't their drive time shows.

The best show is the 10p-2a show with Jim Murray. Next would be the 6p-10p show, Mac & Jason.

I've noticed that the the midday show, Jerome & Jamie, seem to be booking the biggest guests. Some great interviews so far from those guys. Jerome & Jamie aren't very flashy, but they do a very solid show. Would still rather listen to Cowherd or Dan Patrick though.

The overnight show hosted by Mitch Evans is pretty rough. I like Mitch, and I want to like his show, but he's not very good alone. Needs a co-host. Kudos though to The Game for being live & local overnight.

The afternoon show is Okay, but it's very "urban." I guess it's good counter programming to Chuck & Chernoff, but not my cup of tea. Lots of rappers & Real Housewives have been on as guests already.

If it were up to me, I'd have Mac & Jason doing afternoon drive. They're still a good enough counter to 680, but not as polarizing as the current 92.9 afternoon show is.

BTW, love the old school jingles.

Z-93 wasn't coming back to begin with. If CC doesn't flip Wild to Classic Hits, that format is dead in Atlanta FOREVER. You have hd now, so you have somewhere to get your oldies.
On the Game note, it sounds alright. I think it will do well, given CBS's track record with sports. And after going through the Facebook page, I saw no comments from the Dave gallery. Did CBS just scrub them all or was this actually a format change with no social media resistance?

Simply - 929 is unlistenable....I've tried many times with an open mind, but it is beyond bad. No personality ,no real local knowledge and nothing worth getting my attention. Its not like we need a 3rd sports station - maybe they should merge with 790 and use some of their local talent.....gonna be difficult to unseat 680.

I really liked Bon Neil filling in on the first day for Jerome; however, Jerome doe a much better than job than I expected. Would be great to have Bob have a regular show Mon-Fri. Mike Conti has made a great transition from morning news anchor at WGST to Sports Update Guy on the Game. He is appointment listening for me!

Meh. I honestly think 680 is better by a good margin. I don't listen to a lot of sports talk radio anyway but wanted to give the new station a chance.
I'll be interested to see what the ratings say.

same here. what a waste of a good signal.

Couldn't tell ya. For the first time in 30 years, I took 92.9 off my presets. And I'll never listen again.

Same here. In fact, preset #2 on what is now my home office receiver has been set to 92.9 since it was new in 1990. 22 years later, it no longer is. Replaced by WABE which I listen to occasionally. All of my car presets have changed over the past 6 months.. and I just bought it in February!

What a huge pile of crap Atlanta radio has become. River wakes me up in the morning and I now rarely turn to radio in the car. All streaming music for me now.

Sigh.

Personally, I like the new format. I enjoy having people talk SPORTS, not just local sports. I just wish the guy who does the afternoon sports update would speak in words I could understand, instead of trying to be clever and cryptic.

I am glad DBoone brought up that point. John Jefferies has great pipes, but he needs to do his sportscast like Mike Conti, straight and to the point! He does not need to sound like 680 the Fan's former fill-in update guy, Mark Stolberger (spelling?). Everytime he used Northpaw as a way to describe a right handed pitcher, I wanted to smash my car into a set of gas pumps while smoking a cigar and put myself out of my misery. I don't want to be entertained, I want to be informed. If I wanted to be entertained, I would watch Seinfeld or the Sopranos on DVD!
