Improper legal ID WYRD HD2

Every so often I like the show on 98.9 HD2 "Upstate Red" more than the main feed and keep noticing they are using the wrong city of license for WYRD HD2 as they say WYRD Greenville WORD Spartanburg and WYRD HD2 Greenville. I know few care but WYRD FM is licensed to Spartanburg.

98.9 was originally WSPA-FM licensed to Spartanburg. WYRD was moved to 98.9 from 106.7 in Greenville, but that should not change the city of license for 98.9, I would not think.

WYRD was originally at 1330 AM starting in the mid-90s as a simulcast of WORD (then at 910) in Spartanburg. 106.3 licensed to Simpsonville became WYRD-FM in 2008. The calls between WYRD-FM and WSPA-FM were swapped between the two frequencies in March 2023, where they remain today.

I would imagine Audacy would have preferred the WORD-FM calls, but those are locked up by a Christian teaching station owned by Salem in Pittsburgh.

WORD (AM) had to give the Salem station in Pittsburgh permission to use WORD-FM. Not sure how difficult it is to cancel that permission, but if Salem did ever give them up WYRD-FM would almost immediately change to WORD-FM (I would think).
The calls between WYRD-FM [106.3] and WSPA-FM [98.9] were swapped between the two frequencies in March 2023, where they remain today.
and as RadioRonnie285 stated, they are IDing Upstate Red (98.9 HD2) as WYRD-HD2 Greenville when it should be WYRD-FM HD2 Spartanburg.

I wouldn’t expect it to be fixed any time soon. Years ago they had an ID for WSPA-FM when it was on 98.9 that read “WSPA-FM Greenville” as well for quite a while. It’s Audacy…

in general today, not always but in general, as long as you get it pretty close to right, the FCC seems to be fairly happy. they arent quite as nitpicky on some things as they seem to used to be.

I know of an FM thats not id'ing with it's -FM suffix and hasn't for years. No on cares
